This is a good time to make choices about Summer and/or Fall study abroad, so spend some time looking through UGA’s Office of Study Abroad program database (http://www.uga.edu/oie/sa_prog.htm) and consider a visit to our office for an Options Abroad Information session.

3. Costa Rica Info Sessions:
Attention- students interested in studying abroad in Costa Rica! UGA Costa Rica is holding weekly information sessions that will provide details about all of the Maymester and Summer, 2009 programs. Please join us either on Tuesdays, from 4:00-5:00 pm, or on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm in the Costa Rica office, which is downtown in the Bank of America building on Clayton St., 3rd floor. 4. UGA Study Abroad in Croatia—Spaces Available!
The 2009 Croatia Maymester Study Abroad program still has spaces available. The program runs from May 10-June 3 and costs $2400 (plus tuition and airfare). Application deadline is January 30. 6. Below are two upcoming events in the spring '09 Apero Africana brown bag lecture series. Be part of a good turnout in anticipation of African American History Month!
All events are on Wednesdays from 12:15-1:15 P.M. in the African American Cultural Center, Memorial Hall, 4th floor (Adinkra Hall).

7. *APPLICATION DEADLINE - UGA EXCHANGE PROGRAMS - FEB 1, 2008:*
The Office of International Education will be accepting student applications on February 1 for Fall 2008 and Full Year 2009-2010 UGA Echange Programs in Australia, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, Finland, France,
Germany, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, South Korea, Trinidad & Tobago,and the United Kingdom (England & Wales).
Exchange Programs offer the unique opportunity to directly enroll in classes with students from the host university, plus several host universities may also offer language and culture programs. Students abroad on UGA Exchange
Programs pay in-state tuition and fees to UGA, housing fees to their host university, plus pay transportation costs to the exchange program destination. Students are eligible to keep HOPE and other UGA financial aid benefits while studying abroad through an exchange program.

Group discussions will be ongoing throughout the semester and cover a range of social issues as they pertain to the student body, including but not limited to issues pertaining to race, religion, and sexual orientation. The Institute of International Education is pleased to announce the opening of the 2009-10 academic year competition for NSEP David L. Boren Fellowships for graduate students. Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to add important international and language components to their educations.
Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for language study and international research.

Overseas and EU (non UK) residents are eligible 3-years maintenance and full fees (overseas/EU rate) PhD For a PhD project in any Irish-studies related discipline
Preference may be given to research projects relating to the three interdisciplinary research strands of the initiative, although other high-quality Irish history-related projects will also be considered. The research strands are:
(i) Ireland's Other Capital - Belfast : History, Representation, Reimagining
(ii) Political Conflict, Violence and Human Rights in Ireland
(iii) Irishness in its Wider Setting : European and Global Perspectives

The John T. Petters Foundation is a private foundation that works to advance the educational experiences by providing scholarships of deserving students. The Foundation focuses its scholarships to support international business study abroad and social entrepreneurship service programs. --GRADUATE STUDENTS: SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDY IN **GERMANY* *2009-2010*
Applications due January 21, 2009.
UGA Graduate Students have the opportunity to study at several German
universities. At Erlangen, Bamberg and Rostock, the scholarships (some are work-study) cover most living expenses. German universities charge no tuition. The academic year runs from October to late July.
Students should be in good standing in their departments and possess
sufficient German language skills to undertake course work in German.

The Japanese Government Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho or MEXT) sponsors the Monbukagakusho Scholarship to enable foreign students from 160 countries to study Japanese language and culture at the undergraduate level, to train in methods of teaching Japanese as a foreign language, and to research a broad range of topics at the graduate level in Japanese universities. To date, some 65,000 students from approximately 160 countries and regions around the world have studied in Japan under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship program established in 1954. As of May 1, 2005, there were 9,891 foreign students studying in Japan as Japanese government scholarship students.
