Study Abroad through UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. From Costa Rica to Cortona to Canada, CAES has 14 study abroad programs covering topics such as business, wine evaluation, insects, horticulture and sustainable development!

Ghana Summer Service-Learning is a practicum encompassing observation, hands-on practice and lectures in nutrition/dietetics and health issues in Ghana. The Summer Service-Learning experience will provide students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the perceptions diverse cultures have about food and nutrition, and their health. Students will also have the experience of observing and working with malnourished children and their mothers at a nutrition rehabilitation clinic.

Program fee: $3,300 provides accommodation, two meals per day, ground transportation, supplies, health insurance, entrance fee to museums, wildlife safari and excursions all in Ghana. Students are responsible for their air-ticket to and from Ghana.
Tuition: Students will register for 6 hour credits. HOPE will pay tuition for those receiving HOPE. Those not receiving HOPE will pay in-state tuition.
Program Duration: June 19 - July 31, 2009. (6 weeks duration)

5. Maymester Course with International Focus: Disaster Management in the Middle East.

The College of Public Health is offering a Maymester course entitled, "Disaster Management in the Middle East", DMAN 7353. For this course, two instructors will be brought in from Israel who have hands-on experience in the management of mass casualties in civilian populations. This is not a clinical but a management course, so it could be of significant benefit to students in different disciplines. The class will be offered in the morning session during the Maymester session.

6. April 1: India fair—Tate Plaza, 10:00-2:00 pm

Sponsored by Asha for Education. A day of Indian cultural activities including henna tattoos, trying on Indian clothes, and sampling Indian food. Part of Asha for Education's India Week. 7. Women’s Voices Lecture series: International Journalists. April 1.

Blue Card Event. Wednesday, April 1. 4 p.m. Room 248 of the Miller Learning Center.

The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication
will welcome two acclaimed journalists on Wednesday, April 1 as part of its annual Women’s Voices Lecture series. Moni Basu, international reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and Teresa Weaver, editor for Habitat for Humanity International and book editor for Atlanta Magazine, will discuss their careers as journalists.

Moni Basu’s 18-year career at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution
includes covering cyclones, conflicts and earthquakes in her native
India and five trips to Iraq as an embedded reporter with the U.S. Army
and Marine Corps.

Also a veteran of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Teresa Weaver spent 18 years with the paper including nine years as book editor. In addition to her full-time work with Habitat for Humanity International, she serves as part-time book editor for Atlanta Magazine.

The program will also feature the announcement of the winner of the
Women’s Voices Essay Contest. The statewide contest for high school
journalists encouraged students to profile a female communicator and
tell how that person transformed their industry.

Invisible Children and Improv Athens

Invisible Children is teaming up with Improv Athens to bring UGA our first ever comedy show! Be prepared for an April Fool's night filled with laughter and lots of fun. Admission is free, though donations are strongly encouraged. All proceeds go toward rebuilding schools in the war-torn region of northern Uganda.

10. India Conference--“Interconnected Future: India and Georgia”
April 2-3, 2009, at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, UGA.

Sponsored by International Public Service and Outreach (IPSO)

Participants engage in sessions describing a population of new Georgians who have an economic, social, and cultural impact on our state.

Highlights include sessions on "India and Public Health," "Strategic Dimensions of US-India Engagement," and "Understanding Indian Higher Education and Implications for America."

12. Colloquium, April 3

Sponsored by Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute. Dr. Nina Hellerstein will combine a discussion of French and Mexican culture, visual art, and our very own material surroundings in a presentation about Franco-Mexican Artist Jean Charlot (1898-1979), his French Connections, and his Mexican-Inspired Murals on the UGA Campus. 3:30 P.M. - 4:40 P.M. Are you a student interested in pursuing a Fulbright grant for graduate study, research, or English teaching assistantships abroad? Come to a Fulbright information session!

The 2010-2011 Fulbright competition officially opens May 1, 2009, and the campus deadline is September 14, 2009. In April, there will be three information sessions on campus, two for undergraduates and one for graduate students. Note to juniors - if you want to go abroad on a Fulbright the year after graduation, this is the year to apply.

14. International Street Festival:April 4th

Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) grants thirty-three year courses of international scholarships for the academic year 2009-2010 in Rome, Milan, Turin, Barcelona, and Madrid.
The deadline for submitting projects is April 1, 2009.
On this occasion, IED international network opened daily showcase for young creatives who will compete to win IED scholarship. The competition is open to young international students. IED rewards the creative talents of young people aged between 18 and 26 years with a free tuition for a course of Design, Fashion, Visual Arts and Communication.
“My country” is the theme of this competition and there are four design ideas to be developed, one for each school.

STARS (Students Abroad with Regents Support) WORK STIPEND $500.
Deadlines: April 3—for Summer 09 Work Period. STARS is in support of UGA students participating in a UGA or external study abroad or exchange program. Requires employment in the Office of International Education over the course of a semester. The typical semester award is for 50 hours. STARS Work Stipend Funds are provided by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents with matching funds from the UGA Foundation.

The ATJ Bridging Scholarship program will award 50 scholarships to American students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan that begin in Fall 2009. Due April 6. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study and attending any recognized exchange or independent program in Japan are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

Recipients of Bridging Scholarships will receive stipends ranging from $2,500 to $4,000, depending on the length of their study program in Japan. The scholarships are funded by donations from U.S. corporations and foundations to the US-Japan Bridging Foundation.
Since 1999, the Bridging Scholarship program has awarded 875 scholarships to students studying abroad in Japan. Most recently, 17 students received scholarships for the Spring 2009 semester.

Applicants will be notified of the results by May 30. Selection will be based on academic potential and financial need. The scholarships are administered by the Association of Teachers of Japanese.

In addition, Morgan Stanley will award two $7,500 scholarships to undergraduate students who will be studying abroad in Japan during the 2009-2010 academic year and who have an interest in economics and international finance. Applicants must submit an essay on one of several designated public-policy topics together with an application
for the Bridging Scholarship program.

Fall 2009 programs are those beginning between August and October 2009 and continuing for at least three months. (Summer program participants are not eligible for Bridging Scholarships.) Students planning to study abroad in Japan beginning after January 1, 2010, should apply in October 2009 for the Spring 2010 scholarships.

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards of up to $8,000 for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, this congressionally funded program is administered by the Institute of International Education through its Southern Regional Center in Houston, TX.
Now accepting applications for study abroad programs beginning in Fall 2009.
April 7: Student Deadline for submission of online application.
April 10: Postmark Deadline for official, university undergraduate transcript/s. All applicants must submit three copies of their official transcript from the institution where they are currently enrolled and their most recently attended transfer institution, if applicable.
April 14: Advisor Deadline for submission of online Study Abroad Advisor and Financial Aid Advisor section

UGA Alumni Association Study Abroad Fellowship Application:
Only for UGA undergraduates attending a semester/full-year UGA-sponsored study abroad or exchange program. 3.0 minimum GPA. Have at least 1 semester remaining at UGA after program. Fall and Spring deadlines each year.

Deadlines: FALL -- April 17, 2009

UGA Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship Application:
Only for UGA undergraduates attending a semester/full-year UGA-sponsored study abroad or exchange program. 2.5 minimum GPA. Have at least 1 semester remaining at UGA after program. Must commit to 10 hours volunteer service upon return. Fall and Spring deadlines each year.
