Dear Ciliate community,
I am currently writing a new chapter for the MCB: Tetrahymena thermophila
book on Tetrahymena in the classroom with Emily Wiley and Donna
Cassidy-Hanley. For the materials and methods section we will be
summarizing different modules that have been used to integrate Tetrahymena
into the classroom. Donna will be writing about modules that she has
developed for the middle school and high school classrooms and Emily and I
will be writing about what we have been doing in the classroom. Each
section will contain a summary of the module, list of techniques, example
data, and learning outcomes.
We would like this to be a thorough look at the use of Tetrahymena in the
We currently have sections on Bioinformatics, RT-PCR, Sequence Confirmation,
GFP tagging, and Western Blot Analysis/Co-immunoprecipitation.
If you have another module we ask that you submit your detailed protocol
(this will go up on the Ciliates Genomics Consortium in Education-CGCE
website) and then a short summary of the module with a list of techniques
and example figures that were generated in the classroom from these
techniques if applicable. Finally, a statement of the learning outcome that
you were trying to achieve.
If you are interested in supplying a module that will be published in this
chapter please let me know the module name as soon as possible and get me
the above items by July 1st.
Thank you very much for your help,
Josh Smith, Ph.D.
