OIE Schedule

The Office of International Education will be closed between Dec. 25 and
Jan. 1. Up until then, we will be open as usual from 8-5 M-F. However, on
Monday, Dec. 16, the study abroad staff will be on retreat. If you have any
urgent business or wish to submit a credit approval form, please visit the
office the preceding Friday or following Tuesday.


Scholarships for Study in Germany

The DAAD-Leibniz Scholarships provide young academics and scientists with
an opportunity to complete a research project or a program of continuing
education and training at one of the "Leibniz Institutes" in Germany. The
Institutes specify research fields.  Scholars can use the "DAAD-Leibniz
Scholarship" for the following purposes: research projects with the aim of
gaining a doctorate (PhD) in the home; research projects with the aim of
gaining a doctorate in Germany; in such cases, the doctorate is gained at a
German university that collaborates closely with the host Leibniz
Institute; research projects or continuing education and training programs
for post-docs. The deadline for application is Dec. 15, 2002. For more

TA Positions Available in Spanish and French

Syracuse University's Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics
has 4 positions available for Spanish TAs and 4 spots for French TAs in
2003-04. Teaching assistants get full remitted tuition while they earn
their MA degrees in languages or linguistics.  Teaching assistants
generally teach two language sections per semester. The stipend for 2003-04
