1. Athens for Justice in Palestine:  Tue Oct 25 @ 8:00 PM in SLC Rm #171
Special Guest Speaker: Michael TaraziMichael. Tarazi is a lawyer with the
Palestinian Liberation Organization who
provides legal advice to the Negotiations Affairs Department on a wide array
of issues.  He is an American born Palestinian Christian who obtained his
education from Harvard Law School and he has made recent appearances on CNN,
ABC, NBC, and BBC and Mr.Tarazi has also been published in the New York
Times. This is a rare opportunity to be able and ask questions to a
Palestinian negotiator who splits his time between Ramallah and New York.

2. Coffee Hour will not be held this week due to Spring Break.

3.  Join ISL as we send a delegation of UGA students to the 7th annual
Georgia International Leadership Conference.  Deadline to apply is
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2005 at 4:59 pm at ISL! 210 Neniruak  The Georgia
International
Leadership Conference is a conference designed for student leaders from
across Georgia. The ~200 participants will include both international
students and U.S. study abroad students currently enrolled at Georgia
colleges and universities. The conference schedule includes ice-breakers,
leadership training,cross-cultural communication, social events, and much
more!

The cost of the conference is $50. This is unbelievable, you get 2 nights
accommodations at Rock Eagle in Eatonton, Georgia including transportation
and meals.  You also get a fun-filled exciting weekend with Internationals
and Americans with an international interest! The dates are February 24-26,
2006!

If you ATTEND the conference and have paid your student activity fees, you
may be eligible for a FULL refund of the $50 conference fee after you
return!

542-5867.Students may pick up application forms from the ISL office during
regular business hours.  Registration is not complete until students turn in
the entire application form WITH payment.  Students will be taken on a
first-come, first-served basis.  The $50 is NON-REFUNDABLE, but students who
attend the conference in February and who have paid their student activity
fees may be eligible for a FULL refund of the $50 conference fee after you

4.  ISL and First United Methodist Church will be hosting a traditional
Thanksgiving Feast with all the trimmings!  The feast is free for all
internationals and their families.  The dinner will be held on November 21,
2005 beginning at 6:00 pm.  Sign up at ISL, 542-5867 or email
[log in to unmask]  The deadline to sign up is November 12, 2005.

5.  GRADUATION!  International Student Life is hosting a FREE (Yes FREE)
graduation
ceremony of casual elegance for our international student graduates on
Friday, December, 16, 2005 at 3
pm in the Gallery (Rm 309) of the Tate center.  Graduating students should
email ISL
at [log in to unmask] to sign-up for the ceremony.  Deadline for signing up is
December 1, 2005, 5:00 pm!  Help us celebrate this special milestone and all
your accomplishments by signing up.You can also purchase a beautiful country
sash (optional).





Other University Events

1. Each year, the Merage Foundation chooses a number of
promising immigrant students in their fourth year of college
to participate in the Merage Foundation's Fellows Program.
Applicants must be nominated by their university; nomination
by UGA and selection by the Foundation are based on
applicants' academic record, leadership, consistent ethical
behavior, the clarity of their American Dream, and their
potential to contribute importantly to America.

The selected Fellows will be immigrant students who reflect
a strong desire and a real capacity to achieve leadership
roles in business, science, education, public service,
culture, and the arts. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or
permanent residents who are full-time students with senior
class status, and who will graduate between December 2005
and August 2006.

Fellows are awarded $10,000 a year for two years. Fellows
may use their stipends to pursue educational opportunities;
to travel for research and professional development; to
secure mentors; to support internships; etc. in order to
pursue the American Dream described in their application and
interviews.
