PHOTO CONTEST:  ENTRY DEADLINE -  
OCTOBER 31, 2006

The photo contest is open to all UGA students who have lived, studied, worked, or traveled outside the United States and international students currently studying at UGA.              

-- RULES:  U.S. student must submit photos from an experience outside the U.S.; international students may submit photos from their home country or an international travel destination.   * Each student may enter up to 3 photos. * Photos may be between the sizes of 3 X 5 and 5 X 7 and must be submitted in hard copy.

-- DEADLINE:  5:00 PM on October 31st

-- TO ENTER:   Use the Photo Entry Form available on the OIE website at   http://www.uga.edu/oie/iew under Photo Contest OR collect a form from the Office of International Education, 203 Barrow Hall.

Students should submit photos in an envelope addressed to Monica Catalano, Photo Contest, Office of International Education, 203 Barrow Hall along with your completed entry form.

--JUDGING: * Photos will be judged in two categories: "People & Culture" and "Artistic Merit " Judges will look for photos that communicate a cross-cultural experience in the People & Culture category and will look for artistic quality in the Artistic Merit category.

--AWARDS: 1st place prize winners: $75
                   2nd place prize winners: $50
                    3rd place prize winners: $25

**awards are presented at the International Education Week Celebration on Nov. 16, 2006 in Georgia Hall of the Tate Student Center from 6-9 p.m.

UGA ON-CAMPUS HOUSING FOR STUDY ABROAD PARTICIPANTS

 

STUDYING ABROAD FOR SPRING 2007?

 

Students moving out at the end of Fall 2006 will need to complete a Contract Termination Agreement in the Housing Assignments Office no later than December 1, 2006 to avoid any service fees for cancellation.  

 

To terminate your contract, please bring a copy of the acceptance letter to your program and ask to complete the Contract Termination Agreement.   We will cancel your Spring 2007 assignment and adjust your UGA Student Account appropriately.  We will confirm your official checkout and enrollment in the study abroad program when necessary to determine final contract fees if applicable.   You must schedule a checkout appointment in accordance to the policies of your residential community.

 

Are you returning to UGA for Fall 2007 and wish to stay on campus?  Sign-up instructions for Fall 2007 will be available by mid-December on the UGA Housing website.   Please be sure to read and follow the instructions in December in order to maximize your priority.

 

CURRENTLY STUDYING ABROAD IN FALL 2006?

 

Are you returning to UGA for Spring 2007 and wish to stay on campus?  Follow the sign-up instructions at the following link:

Please note: Registration for Fall 2007 starts in December and continues in January for current residents on campus.   If you wish to be considered for on-campus housing for Fall 2007 you should follow the instructions on the housing website by no later than early January.

 

Registrations received by December 5, 2006 should be issued a hall assignment and housing contract by late December. Students registering after this date will not receive any updated information regarding their status until early January, 2007.

UNDECIDED ABOUT WHERE TO STUDY ABROAD?  CONFUSED BY THE CREDIT APPROVAL FORM?

 

Help has arrived!  Study Abroad Peer Advisors, a.k.a. students who have already studied abroad, will be in the Study Abroad Library to answer questions, help you with the Credit Approval Form, and give you the scoop on what it is really like to travel and study abroad.

 

When:  Thursday, Nov. 2nd, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Where:  Study Abroad Library in 203 Barrow Hall

 

If you have questions about a specific trip, these students will be available:

UGA SPRING SEMESTER IN CORTONA, TUSCANY, ITALY

 

Study abroad in the beautiful medieval hilltop town of Cortona, in the heart of Tuscany, just over an hour north of Rome by train.  Coursework in studio art, art history, Italian literature and creative writing.  Open to students of all majors.  All instruction in English by UGA faculty.  Faculty-guided field trips include Rome, Florence, Venice, Spoleto, Orvieto, Assisi, more.

 

Program dates: February 1 - May 1.  Program fee (approximately $9500) INCLUDES tuition (roughly $2000), meals, housing and all travel/hotel costs within Italy.  An especially good deal for out-of-state students, for whom a semester in Cortona is as or less exensive than a semester in Athens.

STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS

BUTLER UNIVERSITY, INSTITUTE FOR STUDY ABROAD AFFILIATE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UGA SPRING 2007 PARTICIPANTS

--DESCRIPTION: Scholarships up to $1000 available for UGA students participating in a study abroad program through the Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University in Spring 2007.  Students are nominated for this scholarship from the UGA Office of International Education.  IFSA Butler will reduce program fees for the selected candidates by the OIE.

AIFS & API AFFILIATE STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UGA SPRING 2007 PARTICIPANTS

--DESCRIPTION: Scholarships up to $1000 available for UGA students participating in a study abroad program through the AIFS: American Institute of Foreign Study or API: Academic Programs International in Spring 2007.  These scholarships are administered by the UGA Office of International Education through funding received from AIFS and API.  Selected award recipients will receive the scholarship funds through UGA as part of their regular UGA financial aid package.

ISA SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UGA SPRING/SUMMER/FULL-YEAR PARTICIPANTS

--DESCRIPTION: The Dr. Carlos E. Castañeda Memorial Scholarships seek to help those who may not otherwise be able to study abroad. Below please find more detailed information on how to apply for the scholarships. ISA awards $45,000 in scholarships each year to summer, semester and academic year program participants as follows: 10 x $1,000 for Summer Study, 4 x $2,500 for Academic Year Study, 10 x $1,000 for Fall Study, 10 x $1,000 for Winter/Spring Study.

--ELIGIBILITY: In order to apply for the ISA Scholarship Awards, students must meet the following criteria:

-Have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA
-Be currently enrolled in second or third year at a U.S. university/college that is an ISA affiliate. (includes UGA)
-Have completed at least one year of appropriate college-level Spanish/French or the equivalent (courses must appear on official transcript)
-Be accepted to an ISA program in a Spanish- or French-speaking country
-Be on financial aid

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK (IEW) CELEBRATION

The Office of International Education proudly presents International Education Week Celebration.   This is an opportunity for the local and international community to come together and celebrate International diversity.  The event will feature international cuisine, photo contest (details below) and entertainment.

--WHEN:   November 16, 2006, 6:00 - 9:00 PM

--WHERE:   Georgia Hall, Tate Student Center

--IEW EVENT TICKETS:   Tickets will go on sale at the Tate Student Center starting in late October. 
                               UGA students:         $5
                               Non-students:          $8
                               Children 6-12:           $3
                               Children under 6:      Free

This is a fundraising event and all ticket sales fully contribute to the IEW Scholarships for Study Abroad and International Students!   Last year funds provided scholarships for 8 study abroad and international students!
