UGA Costa Rica - Franklin Spring Semester 2007

Freshmen & Sophomores (and Juniors & Seniors) - this program could be perfect for you and spaces are still available!  Apply now to participate in our spring semester program from Jan. 21 - March 23rd!  Also, join in the optional pre-trip adventure through Guatemala as an added bonus!

The following courses are offered, so if you need to satisfy some of your core requirements then check out these classes:

Excursions include a trip to the Arenal Volcano, learning about Costa Rica's indigenous pottery, a white-water rafting trip down the world-famous Pacuare River, an exploration of the marine enviornment at the Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Preserve. and other activities like, cloud forest hikes, canopy ziplines, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the National Biodiversity Institute's collection rooms. On the optional pre-program excursion in Guatemala, students will spend six days exploring past and present Mayan culture.

The program cost is $5110 plus tuition (HOPE & financial aid apply), fees and airfare.  The Guatemala trip is $950.

UGA GEOLOGY IN ARGENTINA SUMMER 2007 INFORMATION SESSIONS
"For anyone with a passion for the outdoors"

Learn about this unique opportunity to study and travel along 4,000 miles of Argentina's most beautiful and rarely visited places.
Emphasis of the program rests on the impact of the exploration, exploitation and use of Earth Resources. No pre-requisites. Choose from core courses that satisfy Environmental Literacy or upper division elective science credit courses. Taught mostly in the field.

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK (IEW) CELEBRATION

The Office of International Education proudly presents International Education Week Celebration.   This is an opportunity for the local and international community to come together and celebrate International diversity.  The event will feature international cuisine, photo contest (details below) and entertainment.

--WHEN:   November 16, 2006, 6:00 - 9:00 PM

--WHERE:   Georgia Hall, Tate Student Center

--IEW EVENT TICKETS:   Tickets will go on sale at the Tate Student Center starting in late October. 
                               UGA students:         $5
                               Non-students:          $8
                               Children 6-12:           $3
                               Children under 6:      Free

This is a fundraising event and all ticket sales fully contribute to the IEW Scholarships for Study Abroad and International Students!   Last year funds provided scholarships for 8 study abroad and international students! 

INTERNATIONAL PHOTO CONTEST:   THE WORLD IN PICTURES        

The photo contest is open to all UGA students who have lived, studied, worked, or traveled outside the United States and international students currently studying at UGA.              

-- RULES:  U.S. student must submit photos from an experience outside the U.S.; international students may submit photos from their home country or an international travel destination.   * Each student may enter up to 3 photos. * Photos may be between the sizes of 3 X 5 and 5 X 7 and must be submitted in hard copy.

-- DEADLINE:  5:00 PM on October 31st

-- TO ENTER:   Use the Photo Entry Form available on the OIE website at   http://www.uga.edu/oie/iew under Photo Contest OR collect a form from the Office of International Education, 203 Barrow Hall.

Students should submit photos in an envelope addressed to Monica Catalano, Photo Contest, Office of International Education, 203 Barrow Hall along with your completed entry form.

--JUDGING: * Photos will be judged in two categories: "People & Culture" and "Artistic Merit " Judges will look for photos that communicate a cross-cultural experience in the People & Culture category and will look for artistic quality in the Artistic Merit category.

--AWARDS: 1st place prize winners: $75
                   2nd place prize winners: $50
                    3rd place prize winners: $25

**awards are presented at the International Education Week Celebration on Nov. 16, 2006 in Georgia Hall of the Tate Student Center from 6-9 p.m.
