STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS AND DEADLINES

--FALL STARS STIPEND/SCHOLARSHIPS

The Office of International Education has several STARS (Study Abroad with Regent's Support) Stipends
available in support of in support of UGA students planning to study abroad in Spring 2008, Summer 2008, or Fall 2008/Spring 2009.
--STARS AWARD: This is a work stipend where students work for 50 hours with the Office of International
Education during the fall semester and earn $500 toward the cost of your upcoming study abroad program.
--Eligibility: Any student who is planning to study abroad in Spring 2008, Summer 2008, or Fall 2008/Spring 2009.   
Students must be available to complete their STARS stipend hours during the Fall 2007 semester.

--APPLICATION DEADLINE -- August 24, 2007, 5 pm

UGA FOUNDATION STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIP FOR FALL UGA PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

  Open to Fall 2007 or 2007-2008 Full Year participants of UGA sponsored study abroad and exchange programs, excluding UGA Costa Rica and UGA at Oxford

 

<>Deserving UGA undergraduates, participating in a UGA-sponsored study abroad or exchange program for one semester (Fall or Spring) or full academic year, will be designated as University of Georgia Foundation Study Abroad Scholars and awarded scholarships ($500 and up) in support of his/her upcoming study abroad program.

These University of Georgia Foundation Study Abroad Scholarship funds are supported and provided through the University of Georgia Foundation Incentive Scholarship Initiative Program.

<>Eligibility :   2.50 minimum GPA required, Must not have previously studied abroad for academic credit at the university level

                 --Award based on demonstrated financial need, strong personal recommendation, essays, academic merit, and overall application.

                 --Scholarship recipients must commit to work with the Office of International Education and/or Study Abroad Program Director (as determined by the OIE) and provide a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer service during the semester of return to the UGA campus, promoting study abroad and sharing his/her experience with others. Students must have completed at least one full semester at UGA prior to application and have at least one semester to complete at UGA upon return. ( i.e. scholarship cannot be used for the last semester of your degree program in order to participate in post-study abroad service activities).

 --NOTE: UGA Costa Rica and UGA at Oxford applicants must INSTEAD apply for the UGA Foundation Scholarship directly with those study abroad program directors following separate specific application procedures and deadlines. Separate scholarship funds are available for these 2 study abroad programs.

--STUDENT FULBRIGHT GRANTS

The Fulbright Program for U.S. students provides scholarships for recent graduates and graduate students to conduct research or to teach English overseas.

Applications are now available online for 2008-09.

STUDY ABROAD PEER ADVISOR PROGRAM

 

Do you still want to talk about your study abroad experience? Need an interested audience for your study abroad stories and memories? Want to encourage other UGA students to study abroad?

The Office of International Education is looking for peer advisors for the 2007-2008 academic year. We have found that returned students are one of the best resources for encouraging more UGA students to study abroad. Peer advisors assist the study abroad staff by giving presentations about study abroad, leading discussions and serving on student panels. You can choose to participate in as many events as your schedule permits.

APPLICATION DEADLINE - UGA EXCHANGE PROGRAMS - SEPT 17, 2007

 

The Office of International Education will be accepting student

applications on September 15 for Spring 2008 UGA Exchange Programs in

Australia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Mexico,

Norway, Portugal, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

 

Exchange Programs offer the unique opportunity to directly enroll in classes with students from the host university, plus several host universities may also offer language and culture programs. Students abroad on UGA Exchange Programs pay in-state tuition and fees to UGA, housing fees to their host university, plus pay transportation costs to the exchange program destination. Students are eligible to keep HOPE and other UGA financial aid benefits while studying abroad through an exchange program.

 

--Application Deadline: September 17, 2007 for Spring 2008 programs

                                 (Fall 2008 Deadline is February 1, 2008)

CREDIT APPROVAL FORM REMINDER

This is a reminder for students attending a non-UGA study abroad program or a UGA exchange program (transcript issued by another U.S. or foreign university) to complete the Credit Approval Form and submit the CAF fee before you depart for your study abroad program.

The form serves to let UGA know you will be studying abroad, and to pre-approve your transfer credit, plus to help maintain your eligibility to keep your HOPE and financial aid. Students attending other UGA programs will receive resident credit and do not need to complete this form.

The Credit Approval Form will require you to go to the Undergraduate Admissions and then to your academic advisor. When it is complete, it should be returned to the Office of International Education, Bank of America Building, 3rd Floor, 110 E. Clayton Street, at least 3 weeks prior to departure. You will not receive any financial aid, including the HOPE scholarship, if you do not fill out this form as it serves as the official UGA approval for your study abroad program.

2009 DELTA PRIZE FOR GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING NOMINATIONS

 

Nominations are now open for the Delta Prize for Global Understanding.

The Delta Prize, endowed by the Delta Air Lines Foundation and

administered by The University of Georgia, is awarded on an annual basis

to individuals, who by their own initiative have provided opportunities

for greater understanding among cultures and nations.  The prize

recognizes contributions to peace and cooperation, such as grassroots

projects that diminish hostilities in a particular region of the world,

international programs that improve relations among different peoples,

and leadership in the solution of global or regional conflict. Since its

creation in 1999, the Prize has been awarded to former President and

Mrs. Jimmy Carter and The Carter Center, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former

Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, Mrs. Sadako Ogata, former President

V av Havel, Ambassador Gertrude Mongella, Mr. Ted Turner, and former

President Nelson Mandela.
