Dear Ciliate researchers and educators,

You are invited to attend the Paramecium Genome Workshop and Annotation Jamboree which will be held from June 29th to July 2nd 2008 at the College of Wooster, Wooster Ohio, USA. The workshop is designed to be an informal introduction to ParameciumDB and will also introduce attendees to the Apollo software which is being used as part of the Community Paramecium Genome annotation project. The workshop will provide attendees with plenty of hands-on opportunities to become comfortable with the Apollo software through guided instruction. The workshop will be hosted by Dean Fraga (College of Wooster), Linda Sperling (CNRS, Gif-sur-Yvette) and Olivier Amaiz (CNRS, Gif-sur-Yvette).

The workshop is essentially free for attendees as registration and accommodation expenses are being picked up by the College of Wooster through finding provided by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. All you will need to provide is a passion for ciliate biology and travel expenses to Wooster.

We would like to especially welcome educators who are looking for a creative way to incorporate genomics into their classroom. Paramecium offer several advantages as a model system and there will a short discussion about how to integrate the ParameciumDB into a typical undergraduate class.

The attached flyer discusses additional details of the workshop and you should contact Dean Fraga at [log in to unmask] if you are interested.
