There are now more than 200 settlements and outposts scattered throughout the West Bank blocking the geographic possibility of a contiguous Palestinian territory. The Iron Wall documentary exposes this phenomenon and follows the timeline, size, population of the settlements, and its impact on the peace process. This film also touches on the latest project to make the settlements a permanent fact on the ground - the wall that Israel is building in the West Bank - and its impact on the Palestinian people. Settlements and related infrastructure are impacting every aspect of life for all Palestinians from land confiscation, theft of natural resources, creation of an apartheid-like system, to the devastating impact in regards to the future of the region and the prospect for peace.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31ST
*There will be NO Coffee Hour today because of 'Fall Break.'

*******************ANNOUNCEMENTS****************************
UGA’s Office of Study Abroad invites you to take part in the 2008 INTERNATIONAL PHOTO CONTEST!

This year’s deadline for submissions is rapidly approaching. (October 30th). The contest is open to all UGA students who have traveled outside the United States and all international students who are currently studying at UGA. It doesn’t matter if you are an experienced photographer or an amateur…we encourage you to pick up to three of your favorite photos from overseas and send them in for the contest! We enjoy hosting this contest every year because it brings the world home to the UGA community through pictures. Last year’s competition had more than 300 entries!

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in three categories:

* People & Culture
* Landscape
* New Perspective

Winners will be announced at Campus Coffee Hour, held on Friday November 14, 2008 in Memorial Hall Ballroom—an event co-sponsored with ASHA for Education. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Also as a part of coffee hour, ALL the photo entries will be on display so that Coffee Hour guests can cast their vote for another category: the People’s Choice Award! In the event that people are unable to attend the entire Coffee Hour, we will notify all contestants in advance of November 14th of the exact time for the awards presentation.

This year we are accepting only digital submissions. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that your photo(s) meet FILE SIZE REQUIREMENTS in order to qualify. For complete contest rules, an entry form, and pictures from previous year’s contests, visit: http://www.uga.edu/oie/pc_contest.htm
