Here are a few suggestions that I hope will help you better prepare your Job
Interview and Extemp. speaker for the up-comiong cdes.

Job Interview

   - In the Job Interview CDE the resume needs to be* legitimate*. The job
they are applying for can be made up, but it should be one they are
qualified for *now*. For instance, they could not apply to be a vet.
None of your students have graduated vet school. They could apply for a
vet assistance job because of the knowledge they have gained in the animal
science class or through exhibiting animals or other work experience.
   - We will be using the rubrics from the National FFA CDE Handbook to
score both the Resume and Cover Letter. These can be found on pages 227 and
232 in the National FFA CDE Handbook.

Extemporaneous Speaking

   - The general topics for the Extemporaneous Speaking are: 1) agriscience
and technology, 2) agrimarketing and international agriculture, 3) food and
fiber systems, and 4) urban agriculture. Three(3) specific speech topic
cards will be made for each of these making a total of 12. The student will
select 3 of the 12 cards. They will then choose 1 of the 3 cards for their
   speech topic.
   - They will have 30 minutes to prepare their 4 to 6 minute speech.
   - They can only have five(5) items of reference material. These 5 items
must be printed material such as books or magazines and/or a compilation of
collected materials. To be counted as one item, a notebook or folder of
collected materials may contain no more than 100 single sided pages or 50
   double sided pages.
   - Time is very critical in this cde. There will be a 1 point deduction
for every second their speech is under 4 minutes or over 6 minutes. Time
starts when the speaker begins talking.
   - Five(5) minutes of questions can be asked by the judges.
   - They can use note cards while speaking, but deductions in scoring may
be made for this if it detracts from the effectiveness of the presentation.
   - The rubric can be found on page 155 of the National CDE Handbook for
   this CDE.
