Good morning.  We want to invite members of the Georgia Ag Ed community to participate in this event.  Also please help us publicize the Field Day to those with whom you come in contact. 


As an aside, my office is just down the hallway from some of the Central Region contingent in the Pettigrew Center at Fort Valley State.

Field Day Being Held Sept. 2 in Middle Georgia


A wealth of information will be available for free Sept. 2 at Fort Valley State University.


Hundreds of participants are expected to come to Fort Valley, Ga., for the “Taste of Ag” event, where visitors from across the state can literally taste some of the university’s food products while observing and learning through outdoor agricultural demonstrations on more than 20 topics, including bioenergy crops, fish farming, peach tree management, livestock grazing, and organic fruits and vegetable production practices.


Pre-registration is encouraged to assure a meal ticket. On-site registration begins at 8:15a.m. and the event begins at 9 a.m. at the Agricultural Technology Conference Center off of Hwy. 341


This event is an agricultural showcase of the research and information FVSU’s College of Agriculture, Family Sciences and Technology has to offer Georgians. “We’re going to show people the useful, applied work going on at Fort Valley State,” said Will R. Getz, co-chair of the event’s planning committee. “This event is not only for farmers and landowners with businesses related to agriculture, but for those who have small gardens or an interest in enterprises related to biofuel crops and production, field crops, organic food options, backyard poultry, and sheep and goat feeding and health.”


Inside the new conference center various food samples are expected to be available for tasting including lamb burgers, goat jerky, goat barbeque, sweet corn on the cob, fresh muscadines and foods made from goat milk such as ice cream and cheese. There will also be soap made from goat milk for sale.


In the afternoon there will be additional demonstrations and a tour of university facilities.
