********************************************

****INFO FOR CURRENT STUDY ABROAD STUDENTS****

*6.** * *ATTENTION FALL 2010 STUDY ABROAD STUDENT - CREDIT APPROVAL FORM REMINDER*

This is a reminder for students attending a non-UGA/external study
abroad program or a UGA exchange program (transcript issued by another
U.S. or foreign university) to complete the Credit Approval Form and
submit the CAF fee to the OIE before you depart for your study abroad
program.

The form serves to let UGA know you will be studying abroad, and to
pre-approve your transfer credit, plus to help maintain your eligibility
to keep your HOPE and financial aid. (/Students attending UGA sponsored
programs will receive resident credit instead and do not need to
complete this form.)/

The Credit Approval Form will require you to go to the Undergraduate
Admissions Office and then to your academic advisor. When it is
complete, it should be returned with the CAF fee, to the Office of
International Education, Bank of America Building, 3rd Floor, 110 E.
Clayton Street, at least 3 weeks prior to departure. You will not
receive any financial aid, including the HOPE scholarship, nor maintain
student status at UGA while abroad, if you do not fill out this form --
The CAF serves as the official UGA approval for your study abroad program.

Please contact the OIE study abroad for additional details on the Study
Abroad Credit Approval Form process. The Credit Approval Form is also
available at the OIE Study Abroad Reception Desk and the Study Abroad
Library, Bank of America Building, 3rd Floor, 110 E. Clayton Street.
(706) 425-3274

You are welcome to call the OIE at 425-3274 with questions and/or to
make an appointment with a study abroad advisor! We are happy to help
you with your Credit Approval Form questions!

*7. ONLINE TRAVEL REGISTRATION WITH US DEPARTMENT OF STATE*

https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/

-What is Travel Registration?
Travel registration is a free service provided by the U.S. Government to
U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in, a foreign country.
Registration allows you to record information about your trip abroad
that the Department of State can use to assist you in case of an
emergency, travel alerts, travel warnings, etc.

Americans residing abroad can also get routine information from the
nearest U.S. embassy or consulate. U.S. consular officers assist
Americans who encounter serious legal, medical, or financial
difficulties. Although consular officers cannot act as your legal
counsel, they can provide the names of local attorneys and doctors,
provide loans to destitute Americans, and provide information about
dangerous conditions affecting your overseas travel or residence.

To Register: Visit https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/

If you haven't had the opportunity to read the Country Specific
Information for your country, we strongly recommend that you do so
before departure. A current listing of all Consular Information Sheets,
Travel Warnings, and Public Announcements can be found at
www.travel.state.gov <http://travel.state.gov>.

****ATTENTION RETURNED STUDY ABROAD STUDENTS****

*8. STUDY ABROAD PEER ADVISOR PROGRAM**

Do you still want to talk about your study abroad experience? Need an
interested audience for your study abroad stories and memories? Want to
encourage other UGA students to study abroad?

The Office of International Education is looking for peer advisors for
the 2008-2009 academic year. We have found that returned students are
one of the best resources for encouraging more UGA students to study
abroad. Peer advisors assist the study abroad staff by giving
presentations about study abroad, leading discussions and serving on
student panels. You can choose to participate in as many events as your
schedule permits.

If you are interested in becoming a Study Abroad Peer Advisor, please
contact Mandi Work at the Office of International Education,
[log in to unmask] or 425-3274

*9. STUDY ABROAD STUDENT EVALUATIONS**

Have you recently returned from a Study Abroad program? We would love to
know more about your experiences abroad!

Visit http://www.uga.edu/oie/sa_re_eva.htm to fill out an evaluation and
have your comments posted in the OIE Study Abroad Library! Thank you!
