Teachers,

For those who may be interested, I am sending some information on classroom
grants from the Georgia Agribusiness Council. The deadline to apply is
October 31. They will be awarding four $500 grants.

COMMERCE, Ga. – For the eleventh year, the Georgia Agribusiness Council
(GAC) is pleased to offer the GAC Dr. Joe B. Crane Memorial Classroom Grant
Program where up to four Georgia classrooms will each be awarded a grant to
help teachers fund special classroom agricultural projects. GAC wants to
provide teachers with the resources needed to bring agriculture to Georgia
students. Since its inception, GAC has awarded more than 30 grants totaling
nearly $17,000 to Georgia schools.
Every K-12 classroom teacher interested in focusing on agriculture is
eligible to apply for a grant. The deadline is October 31, 2010.
Applications are available via the GAC website at www.ga-agribusiness.org or
by calling the GAC office at 706/336-6830. Each applicant is asked to
provide the following information for their proposed agricultural school
project: project title, objectives, plan of action, impact and evaluation,
and budget. There are many important agriculture lessons for consideration.
These include, but are not limited to, environmental stewardship of farming
practices, the safe use of fertilizers and chemicals, food and fiber
production and processing, as well as looking at agriculture history and the
future.
The Education Committee of the Council will review all completed grant
applications and awards will be awarded in November. This year, GAC is
offering up to four $500 grants.
Georgia food and fiber production and processing agribusiness is a $65
billion industry, accounting for more than 8% of the state’s economy and
351,000 jobs in 2008. The GAC, a non-profit organization, serves as the
voice for Georgia’s massive, complex business of agriculture. The Council’s
mission is “To advance the business of agriculture through economic
development, environmental stewardship and education to improve the quality
of life for all Georgians.” More information on the Georgia Agribusiness
Council can be obtained by visiting www.ga-agribusiness.org or calling
800/726-2474.
