--8. REMINDER:  FALL 2011 PROGRAM UGA STUDY ABROAD CREDIT APPROVAL FORMS DUE FOR EXTERNAL/NON-UGA & EXCHANGES

This is a reminder for students attending a non-UGA/external study abroad program or a UGA exchange program (transcript issued by another U.S. or foreign university) to complete the Credit Approval Form and submit the CAF fee before you depart for your study abroad program.

The form serves to let UGA know you will be studying abroad, and to pre-approve your transfer credit, plus to help maintain your eligibility to keep your HOPE and financial aid.
(Students attending UGA sponsored programs (registering in OASIS) will receive resident credit instead and do not need to complete this form.)
The Credit Approval Form will require you to go to the Undergraduate Admissions Office and then to your academic advisor. When it is complete, it should be returned with the CAF fee, to the Office of International Education, 1324 S. Lumpkin Street, International Education Building, at least 3 weeks prior to departure. Please note that you will not receive financial aid, including the HOPE scholarship, nor maintain student status at UGA while abroad or transfer in study abroad credit, if you do not fill out this form -- The CAF serves as the official UGA approval for your study abroad program. J

Stop by the OIE or contact us to get a Study Abroad Credit Approval Form (CAF) – CAFs are available at the OIE Study Abroad Reception Desk and the OIE International Resource Room, International Education Building, 1324 S. Lumpkin Street.

You are welcome to call the OIE at 542-2900 with questions and/or to make an appointment with a study abroad advisor!  We are happy to help you with your Credit Approval Form questions and get you started on the transfer credit approval process for your upcoming study abroad program!

***********************************************************

--9. STUDYING ABROAD THIS FALL?    REGISTER YOUR TRAVEL ON-LINE WITH US EMBASSY OVERSEAS

The Office of International Education recommends that all current study abroad students register with the local US Embassy in your host country. Students may easily register on-line via the US State Department website:  https://travelregistration.state.gov

Travel Registration, now called The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service provided by the U.S. Government to U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in, a foreign country. STEP allows you to enter information about your upcoming trip abroad so that the Department of State can better assist you in an emergency. STEP also allows Americans residing abroad to get routine information from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Please do take the responsibility to register your stay abroad with the US State Department while on your study abroad program.

***********************************************************

--10.  STUDY ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS:

FOUNDATION FOR GLOBAL SCHOLARS – FALL 2011 SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
The Foundation for Global Scholars (formerly the Foundation for Asia Pacific Education) now offers scholarships to students regardless of program destination.  Since inception the Foundation has provided more than $800,000 to over 800 deserving students.  With this new name and global mission, the Foundation for Global Scholars can assist even more students and attract more donors who want to support international education scholarships without geographic limitations.

--ELIGIBILITY:  At the time of applying for any of the Foundation scholarships, you must be enrolled in a North American college or university where transfer credit from an academic program abroad will be applied to your degree being earned. You must be a US or Canadian citizen.  Additional eligibility requirements may apply to several scholarships offered through the Foundation at:  http://foundationforglobalscholars.org/Scholarship-Details.htm

--DEADLINE:  NOW through August 31, 2011

--TO APPLY:  http://foundationforglobalscholars.org/ApplicationForm.php

***********************************************************

--11.  FINISHING UP AN NON-UGA STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM?  PLEASE ARRANGE TO SEND FINAL TRANSCRIPT TO OIE……
If you are just finishing a Spring or Summer 2011 non-UGA/external study abroad program, please check-in with your program sponsor & make a request for your final transcript to be sent to UGA in care of The Office of International Education, 1324 S. Lumpkin Street, International Education Building, University of Georgia, Athens, GA  30602.

NOTE: Official study abroad transcripts should now be sent to the OIE instead of Undergraduate Admissions.  Thanks for your cooperation with this change!

--12.  SUMMER 2011, SPRING 2011 & FULL YEAR 2010-11 STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM EVALUATIONS:
Your feedback is needed!

Just a reminder to all current Summer 2011, Spring 2011 & Full Year 2010-11 study abroad participants - we would love to hear your feedback on your program, the good and the bad.  If you went on a UGA faculty-led group, you are probably filling out an evaluation directly for your program; however, you are also welcome to do the form below as well.
If you went on an external program, we'd especially love to hear from you on this form as it is our primary means of learning more about your experience & sharing it with future participants:
http://www.uga.edu/oie/sa_re_eva.htm

Thanks, and hope you had a great study experience abroad!

***********************************************************

--13.  BE A STUDY ABROAD PEER ADVISOR!

Do you still want to talk about your study abroad experience? Need an interested audience for your study abroad stories and memories? Want to encourage other UGA students to study abroad?

The Office of International Education is looking for peer advisors for the 2011-2012 academic year. We have found that returned students are one of the best resources for encouraging more UGA students to study abroad. Peer advisors assist the study abroad staff by giving presentations about study abroad, leading discussions and serving on student panels. You can choose to participate in as many events as your schedule permits.
