Subject: UGA FFA Invitational in Tifton

Greetings from the UGA Tifton Campus,

The UGA Tifton Agricultural Education students along with the UGA Tifton
Collegiate FFA is hosting the second annual UGA FFA Invitation in Tifton
(UFIT) competition. This will be a mock CDE contest and is open state wide
to all FFA Chapters. The competitions will be held on November 16, 2011 at
the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center in Tifton, Georgia. The competitions
include Agricultural Communications, FFA Quiz, Junior and Senior Nursery
Landscape, and Junior and Senior Prepared Public Speaking.

This is NOT a regional or state level contest; this competition is strictly
for practice of the students but it will be facilitated according to
regional contest rules. *Please see below for additional contest
descriptions.* Official dress is highly recommended for Prepared Public
Speaking and chapter t-shirts or official dress is recommended for the other
events.

The contest check-in will start at 4:00 p.m., and the contest will start at
4:30 p.m.  You are welcome to have more than one entry per competition, but
a student can only compete in one competition at the event. A five dollar
entry fee per person will be applied to cover costs of food and other
necessities and is payable at check-in. Please make checks payable to UGA
Tifton Collegiate FFA.  If you wish to send your payment before the event,
you can mail it to UGA Tifton Collegiate FFA, P.O. Box 748, Tifton, Georgia
31793. Please RSVP by November 1, 2011.

In addition to the FFA events, we will also have representatives and
ambassadors for the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
Tifton Campus available to talk to your students. They will also be giving
away door prizes during the awards ceremony.



Awards will be given at the conclusion of the event after all scores have
been tabulated. We will award all first place teams and individuals with a
plaque and second place teams and individuals with a framed certificate.

 *Agricultural Communications:* The event will consist of a 25 question
Communications Quiz and a 25 question Editing Quiz for each team member.
Each team will consist of three students, and the teams will be ranked on
the scores of all three team members.

*FFA Quiz:* The FFA Quiz competition will be facilitated differently than
the official contest since the area level competition has already occurred.
The FFA Quiz will consist of a team of three that will each be responsible
for completing a 50 question exam. 40 questions will cover topics that
include FFA history, basics, activities, and people. 10 questions will cover
topics relating to parliamentary procedure. The top four teams will then be
invited to participate in a quiz bowl round that includes similar questions
as well as a potpourri category. This section of the event will take place
during while the other contest scores are being compiled.

*Nursery Landscape:* Teams will consist of three to four members, and the
top three individual scores will be added to determine the team score. The
Junior Division will consist of plant identification of 25 specimens and a
25 question general knowledge exam. The Senior Division will include
identification of 25 plants and/or equipment, a 25 question general
knowledge exam, 5 problem solving questions, identification of 10 disorders,
and a landscape practicum.
*Public Speaking:*  Students competing in the Junior Division will present a
four to six minute speech. Students competing in the Senior Division will
present a six to eight minute speech and will be allowed five additional
minutes to answer questions relating to the speech. *Manuscripts for all
public speaking participants are due by Friday, November 4.* Please email
