information to plan, prepare, and register your team(s) for the Central
Region
Floriculture CDE to be held for Area 4 at Southeast Bulloch High School
on Tuesday, Dec 6th. Area 3 will be held in the Pettigrew Center at
FVSU on Thursday, Dec 8th. Please check the Ag Ed website for the
revised Floriculture CDE guidelines to also assist in preparing for this
event. Registration will start at 4:00 and the CDE will begin at 4:30
for both areas.

NEW RULES AND REGULATIONS (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY)
1. Each Chapter may enter one team at the area competition. Team Make-up: A team representing a chapter will consist of four members. With a four-member team, all individual scores will be added to determine the team score.
SENIOR EVENT FORMAT
The career development event will be conducted in FOUR PHASES as follows:
PHASE
Identification of Plants, Tools and Materials: Twenty-five specimens
from the Georgia Floriculture Plant List and Horticulture Tool
and Materials List will be displayed for contestants to identify. Ten points will
be awarded for each correct answer, and participants have 25 minutes to
complete this event phase.
General Knowledge: The general
knowledge section will consist of
twenty-five questions covering all areas of the floriculture industry. Ten
points will be awarded for each correct answer, and participants have 25 minutes
to complete this phase.
Problem Solving: This phase will consist of five problem solving
questions. Twenty points will be awarded for each correct answer, and
participants have 20 minutes to complete this phase. The problem solving
questions will concentrate on a designated areas:
1. Media Volume
2. Area and Volume
3. Chemical and fertilizer application
4. Irrigation
5. Pricing
Disorder Identification: Contestants will be required to identify
plant disorders including diseases, insects, weeds, and nutritional disorders
and specify, if requested, those pesticides or other treatments necessary to
remedy the problem. Items for this phase of the career development event
will be selected from the Disorders List. Ten points will be
awarded for each correct answer, and participants have 20 minutes to
complete this event phase.
SENIOR SCORING
Participant scores are the sum of the four phases of the event and team scores are the sum of all four member scores.

JUNIOR EVENT FORMAT

Georgia Junior Floriculture List (revised 2006) will be displayed for
contestantsto identify. Ten points will be awarded for each correct
answer, and participants have 30 minutes to complete this event phase.
General Knowledge: The general knowledge section will
consist of twenty-five questions covering basic horticulture.
Ten points will be awarded for each correct answer,
and participants have 25 minutes to complete this event phase.
JUNIOR SCORING
Participant scores are the sum of the two phases of the event and team scores are the sum of all four member scores.
