Teachers,

As the holiday season approaches, please encourage your 11th and 12th grade students to consider applying for the State FFA Degree. State Degree applications are due in the Region office March 1, and should include all SAE hours, skills, finances and growth from the first year that a student entered agricultural education and the FFA until December 31, 2011. Please do not include any 2012 information on this year's State Degree applications! Those chapters who are using the AET online record keeping system this year can generate a Georgia FFA state degree application from AET. Those who are not yet using the AET should download a copy of the Excel based State Degree application from the Georgia FFA website (www.georgiaffa.org<http://www.georgiaffa.org>) and go to the Applications link. A copy of the Georgia FFA Degree application is also attached to this email.

***Please be sure to use the State Degree application on the Georgia FFA website now, as a few minor changes have been made. I hope that you will find the revised applications a little easier to use. No changes have been made to the qualifications, financial formulas, or requirements to earn the State Degree. The only changes have been to style and layout of the application and Star Battery.

If you have a State Degree candidate with an SAE that you feel is above average, I encourage you to nominate them as a state Star candidate. A Star Battery application is also attached to this email, and available on the Applications page of our Georgia FFA website. Students who want to be considered as Star candidates should complete their State Degree application, AND complete a Star Battery application. The Star Battery will tell and show us more about the student's SAE. Each Star candidate will need to select whether they want to be considered as the Star Farmer, Star in Agribusiness, Star in Agriscience, or Star in Agriculture Placement. A brief description of each is listed below. Star Battery applications, like State Degree applications, are due to the Region office by March 1.

Star Farmer
Any FFA member receiving the state FFA degree in a given year with a production-based entrepreneurship SAE is eligible to apply for the Star in Farmer. All candidates must have enough earning and invest to earn the State FFA Degree in order to be eligible to be a Star candidate.

Star in Agribusiness
Any FFA member receiving the state FFA degree in a given year with an Entrepreneurship SAE in a non-production area is eligible to apply for the Star in Agribusiness. All candidates must have enough earning and invest to earn the State FFA Degree in order to be eligible to be a Star candidate.

Star in Agriculture Placement
Any FFA member receiving the state FFA degree in a given year with a Placement SAE is eligible to apply for the Star in Agricultural Placement. An eligible candidate should have placement SAE in production agriculture, agribusiness or directed lab that is NOT Agriscience based. Candidate's placement can be paid, or unpaid, however, they must have enough earning and invest to earn the State FFA Degree in order to be eligible to be a Star candidate.

Star in Agriscience
Any FFA member receiving the state FFA degree in a given year with an Agriscience SAE is eligible to apply for the Star in Agriscience. An Agriscience SAE is based on natural resources, research/experimentation type of SAE or a science-based directed lab SAE (these may be entrepreneurship or placement experiences.) Agriscience placement can be paid or unpaid experiences, however, applicants must have enough earning and invest to earn the State FFA Degree in order to be eligible to be a Star candidate.

A set of written guidelines for each Star area can be downloaded from the Award Guidelines page of the Georgia FFA website at the following link.
