1. CURRENT STUDY ABROAD STUDENTS - PLEASE REGISTER ONLINE WITH US DEPARTMENT OF STATE

 STUDYING ABROAD THIS SEMESTER?

The Office of International Education recommends that all current study abroad students register with the local US Embassy in your host country. Students may easily register on-line via the US State Department website.

The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service provided by the U.S. Government to U.S. citizens who are traveling to, or living in, a foreign country.  STEP allows you to enter information about your upcoming/current trip abroad so that the Department of State can better assist you in an emergency. STEP also allows Americans residing abroad to get routine travel alerts and information from the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

Please do take the responsibility to register your stay abroad with the US State Department while on your study abroad program.  Thank you for your cooperation!

Register Your Overseas Travel & Contact Information:   https://travelregistration.state.gov

2.  REMINDER: SPRING 2012 CREDIT APPROVAL FORM FOR EXTERNAL/NON-UGA PROGRAM STUDENTS

Just a quick reminder for Spring 2012 students attending a non-UGA/external study abroad program or a UGA exchange program (transcript issued by another U.S. or foreign university) to complete the Study Abroad Transfer Credit Approval Form (CAF) before you depart for your study abroad program.  The form serves to let UGA know you will be studying abroad, and to pre-approve your transfer credit, plus to help maintain your eligibility to keep your HOPE and financial aid.

(Students attending UGA sponsored programs (registering in OASIS) will receive resident credit instead and do not need to complete this form.)

The Credit Approval Form will require you to visit the Office of International Education, provide details about your program and descriptions of your classes, plus to meet with your academic advisor. When it is complete, the CAF should be returned to the Office of International Education, 1324 S. Lumpkin Street, International Education Building, at least 3 weeks prior to departure. Please note that you will not receive financial aid, including the HOPE scholarship, nor maintain student status at UGA while abroad or transfer in study abroad credit, if you do not fill out this form -- The CAF serves as the official UGA approval for your study abroad program.

You are welcome to call the OIE at 542-2900 with questions and/or to make an appointment with an Education Abroad Advisor.  We can help get you started on the transfer credit approval process for your upcoming study abroad program.

Download the Credit Approval Form at:  http://oie.uga.edu/docs/sa/students/caf.pdf
