2012 NRCS Organic EQIP and High Tunnel Programs
There will be three cut-off dates for the 2012 Organic EQIP and High Tunnel programs: Feb. 3, Mar. 30 and June 1.This means that all applications received prior to those dates are reviewed and ranked for contracts.
The Organic EQIP program offers to pay farmers per acre for practices such as cover cropping, crop rotations and nutrient management as well as to setup micro-irrigation systems and cross fencing for pastures. This program allows up to three years before participating farms must certify organic. Farms must have produced (not necessarily sold) $1,000 worth of agriculture products in the last couple years on the land to be eligible. Farms must have had some other form of watering (even hand watering) to be eligible for cost sharing on wells and irrigation. There are benefits to those who have farm for less than ten years or are considered socially disadvantaged.
The best way to take advantage of the full suite of NRCS programs is to contact your local service center and ask for their help in developing a conservation plan for your farm
