Prescott High School
Years in the profession: 31 years
Institution where you received your Ag Ed degree:
Southern Arkansas University
Biggest benefit of NAAE membership to you:
Opportunities to communicate with Ag teachers from all over the nation and share info on our programs and how to make them better.
Memorable teaching moment: The
best moment is probably when you are in class lecturing a group of students and the “light bulb” just comes on in the students mind and they are eager to learn or have grasped a new idea that they see is really important in their lives.
What do you know now that you wish you would have known as a first year teacher?Treat
each student as an individual. Do not try to teach all students the same. We are all different and learn in different ways. Some of my best students are those who are not able to stay (for some reason) in other teachers’ classrooms without getting in trouble,
but are outstanding students when they are able to work with their hands on projects in the Ag shop.
What is one thing you try to do every day as an ag teacher?Have
a positive attitude and relate a new idea to my students that will brighten their future and see that they are important to the future and that they are the future.
