My name is Abby Halperin (Udall '10 and '11), I am now working at the New
York City Department of Parks and Recreation, and am writing to let you
know about an exciting fellowship program.

The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking motivated and
energetic applicants to become the next generation of leaders dedicated to
public service and to protecting and enhancing New York City's parks and
natural resources. The NYC Parks Fellowship and Conservation Corps Program
is a paid 40-week public service commitment that features professional
placements within a diverse and dynamic city agency. Participants work on
substantive projects, including: Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
mapping of natural areas, supporting environmental education programs for
New Yorkers of all ages, leading community engagement efforts, connecting
New Yorkers to fitness and recreational opportunities, and more. These
long-term placements provide valuable work experience, build momentum for
NYC Parks, and supply much-needed assistance to Parks units seeking
motivated participants eager to learn and apply new skills. Corps members
also participate in regularly-scheduled professional development seminars
and group projects that support Parks priorities, such as restoration of
natural areas and community outreach activities. Through this fellowship,
Corps Members will help to care for City parks while gaining crucial work
experience and exposure to careers in public service and the environmental
sector. This paid fellowship program begins September 8, 2014.

Additional information on the NYC Parks Fellowship and Conservation Corps
and program applications can be found at *Applications
are due March 21, 2014*. I have also attached a program flyer and one-page
description for your reference.

If you're interested in the program, I'd be happy to chat about it.
