Details
Top women who study medicine, global hunger and obesity will share their experiences at the ninth annual Global Educational Forum on March 19.
This year's conference theme, "Women in Science and Medicine: Challenges, Achievements and Way Forward," brings experts from around the globe to delve into a multicultural, multi-discipline event. The forum covers topics such as women in African medicine, global hunger, breast cancer and patient diversity, the gendered politics of health and obesity epidemics around the world, and is sponsored by the kinesiology department in the UGA College of Education as well as units across UGA (the African Studies Institute, College of Agricultural and Environmental Science, College of Family and Consumer Sciences, College of Pharmacy, College of Public Health, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School, Institute for African-American Studies, Institute for Women's Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute, Office of International Diversity and the Office of International Education and the Office of the Vice President for Research).

The annual forum takes place at the UGA Center for Continuing Education and focuses on women in scientific fields because they are, traditionally, an underrepresented group.

Note that the Global Educational Forum continues on March 31 with a special presentation from invited speaker Henrietta Ukwu, physician and senior vice president for global regulatory affairs at Otsuka Pharmaceutical., She will speak at 3:30 p.m. in Mahler Hall on ""Regulatory Science–Role in Pharmaceutical Medicine and Global Impact."

The mission of the Global Educational Forum is to provide faculty and students an opportunity to share their research, teaching and service activities as contextualized within UGA's diverse academic disciplines. The forum brings together faculty from within the campus of the University of Georgia and from outside to discuss research and teaching activities in global context. Graduate and undergraduate students get the opportunity to share their research studies and educational experiences as connected to diverse disciplinary knowledge.
