Informational Sessions/Learning Opportunities

Discover Abroad will be hosting information sessions for interested students the first Tuesday of each month in MLC room 213 from 5:30-6:30PM.  Stop by and learn about the exciting programs Discover Abroad has to offer!

Choosing a study abroad program is challenging; after all, there are so many diverse, unique destinations out there.  That's why CEA has developed a quiz to help students identify an international location that meets their unique personalities and objectives.  To increase accessibility, CEA is offering a $750 grant to students that apply for a Spring 2016 program before September 30 and enter SPRING16DREAM on step 6 of their application.
*Please note that students are required to attend an Education Abroad 101 Session prior to meeting with an Education Abroad Advisor

Start your study abroad process by attending one of the Education Abroad 101 sessions or dropping by our weekly Info Table at MLC on Thursdays, 1-3pm. Education Abroad Advisors are available for 15 min. walk-ins and 30 min. advising appointments in the Office of International Education Building at 1324 South Lumpkin Street. Funding and Scholarships
10th Annual Travel Video Contest is excited to announce the 10th Annual Travel Video Contest. Both study abroad and international students can enter to win the $4,000 grand prize by submitting a 5 minute video telling us about a trip or study abroad program they want to take.

Students have until 11:59pm EDT on October 22, 2015 to enter to win. The winners will be announced during International Education Week on November 20, 2015.

Boren Awards 


Info Session

Boren Awards are funded by the National Security Education Program and provide U.S. undergraduate and graduate students with the resources to pursue study abroad experiences focused on languages, fields of study, and geographic areas deemed critical to U.S. interests. The countries of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand are excluded.


Boren Scholarships offer undergraduates up to $20,000 for 6-12 months of language study abroad. Boren Fellowships offer graduate students up to $30,000 for up to two years of language study in the U.S. and abroad. In exchange for funding, Boren award recipients agree to work in the federal government for a period of at least one year. This award is an excellent “in” for careers in the federal government that require skills in critical languages.


Information on the BOREN AWARDS AFRICAN LANGUAGES INITIATIVE also will be presented in the session. The African Flagship Languages Initiative (AFLI) offers Boren Scholarship and Boren Fellowship applicants the opportunity to study African languages and cultures by participating in domestic and overseas language programs in one of the following languages:  Swahili, Yoruba, Zulu, Akan/Twi, Hausa, Wolof, French, and Portuguese. Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the countries and regions where they go by offering awards to U.S. undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints.

Options Abroad - Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship - Part 1

This Options Abroad session is part 1 of 2 sessions, and will focus on the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. Join us to learn more about scholarship writing and applying to this national scholarship, available to Pell Grant recipients.

Monday, September 21, 5:30pm-6:30pm.

This Options Abroad session is part 2 of 2 sessions, and will focus on the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship.  Join us for a peer editing workshop to review your scholarship essay for submission to the Gilman Scholarship prior to the Spring 2016 deadline.
