Please see the obituary below for Mr. Jack Martin of Clayton, Ga. Mr. Martin was a retired Ag Teacher from Rabun County High School. I never knew him but he sure seems like one we should all be indebted to.
Jack Daniel Martin, age 91, of Payne Hill Drive; Clayton, GA died peacefully October 2, 2015. He was the widower of Sara Marquez Lankford Martin.
Jack was born in Williamston, Anderson County, SC, and was the son of the late Jesse C. Martin and Florence Allred Martin. He was a graduate of Brevard College and the University of Georgia. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the 8th Infantry Division of the US Army. He was engaged in combat in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, including the battles of St. Malo, Hurtgen Forest and Battle of the Bulge. He was a Bronze Star recipient.
He taught Vocational Agriculture and Ornamental Horticulture in Hart, Hall and Rabun County, Georgia. He retired in 1980, after teaching for twenty-five years in Rabun County High School.
He was a member of Clayton First United Methodist Church. He was a former member and past President of the Clayton Lions Club.
Surviving are his son, Jimmy Martin of Elizabethton, TN; daughter and son in law, Mary Ann and Steve Littrell of Persimmon, grandsons, Jacob Daniel Littrell and his wife JJ of Belmont, NC and Will Littrell of Gainesville, GA; great grandson Ethan Daniel Littrell and soon to arrive great granddaughter Emma Kathryn Littrell of Belmont, NC. He is also survived by his nephew Fred Millard Martin (Janice) of Bristol, TN; niece Cathy Schwartz (Tom) of Leavenworth, WA and niece Florence Widis (Larry) of Charlotte, NC.
