We are seeking one highly qualified postdoctoral fellow to conduct innovative research on the genetic and epigenetic control of DNA replication, in the model eukaryote, Tetrahymena thermophila. These studies will be performed in the laboratory of Dr. Geoffrey Kapler, Department of Molecular and Cellular Medicine, which is currently supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and an endowed professorship. The successful applicant will assume a leadership role in the pursuit of research in one of three lines of investigation: (1) genome-wide mapping of replication initiation sites and functional characterization of differentially regulated replication origins; (2) biochemical and molecular characterization of genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that control replication origin licensing, and (3) proteomic and biochemical analysis of a highly unconventional DNA replication stress checkpoint response.  The postdoctoral fellow will learn and apply state-of-the-art high throughput (DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, mass spectrometry) and reverse genetic methodologies.  She/he will have opportunities to attend international conferences, and participate in writing workshops and other career development programs in preparation for a leadership role in academia or industry.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a closely related field.  Preferred experience in biochemical, genetic and analysis of epigenetic histone modifications and/or sequence-specific DNA binding proteins.  Applicants should have a strong publication record, including first authorship. Prior experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students is highly preferred. Salary commensurate with experience, in accordance with NIH postdoctoral salary recommendations (
