The National FFA Alumni Association strives to support FFA in many different ways. This year, at the 90th National FFA Convention & Expo, the FFA Alumni named the Miller County FFA Alumni Chapter located in Georgia, as the Outstanding FFA Alumni Chapter. They were recognized, because of their support of their local FFA chapter. Jim East, chapter member, accepted the award on the chapter's behalf.
Miller County FFA Alumni support their local FFA chapter through several activities. The alumni chapter serves as an advisory council to assist the ag science instructor in selecting the ag curriculum while also including the parents in the process. As adjustments are made to fit the needs of the students and skills of the instructor, enrollment often increases.
The Miller County FFA Alumni Chapter in Georgia has helped their local FFA chapter grow leaders, build communities and strengthen agriculture in a variety of ways. Some of the highlights of their work include sponsoring a new FFA livestock trailer and F250 truck, travel to the National FFA Convention & Expo, and the FFA Beast Feast Cookout and Corn Hole
Tournament. The alumni chapter actively recruits through mailings and social media. They also advocate for agriculture through newsletters and sponsored field trips. They also help conduct the Miller County FFA Officer training, local FFA farmtour fieldtrip, Veteran’s Day appreciation dinner and chicken-q and pork chop plate sales.
