North Region Teachers,
This year’s North Region community service project will be a benefit drive for The City of Refuge, a homeless ministry center. Their mission is having a commitment to affecting real change in the lives of those left living on the margins of society by addressing the needs of the disadvantaged regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender or disability and to help integrate them back into society to lead healthy functional lives.
The City of Refuge has several locations within Georgia (Atlanta, Augusta, Dalton) and was established in 1995 as a grassroots outreach program to meet the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the homeless, low income, poverty level and indigent families. The facilities include transitional housing, hot meal feeding programs, shower ministry, transportation, Sunday Service, life mentoring, and children/youth programs.
Items donated should be brought to The North Region Rally on September 5th and 6th, and turned into the Area Officers that will be stationed at the donation center. This is a great project for students to use to gain more community service hours for their State degrees and other FFA awards. A list of items to be donated for this years’ service project is attached on an informational flyer for your classroom. The winner of the community service award from each area will receive this year's community service trophy and an SLC scholarship. Winners will be determined by the total weight of all items donated. A link to an informative video to play in your classroom can be found on the North Region Web-page.
We look forward to each of you participating and seeing how much we can collect to donate to an organization that is making a difference in homeless communities within Georgia.
