"The Mask You Wear" Performance and Conversation

Cine, 234 W. Hancock Ave.

"The Mask You Wear" is a musical composition collaboratively created by composer Julien Berger and composer and lyricist Cassie Chantel. Supported by the Athens Hip Hop Harmonic, this work blends classical saxophone quartet music with multi-genre vocalist and recording artist Chantel's riveting lyrics. This event will include a live performance of the piece, featuring saxophone quartet Mixed Media with Chantel, and a discussion with the composers moderated by Nkululeko Zungu.

Join Cydney K. Seigerman for a conversation about their field research in Brazil that incorporates community-based theatre techniques to better understand local water struggles. Seigerman is a doctoral student in Anthropology and Integrative Conservation exploring how socionatural processes shape and are shaped by the lived experience of water insecurity.

The University of Georgia Arts Council is seeking self-nominations for two graduate student and at least one undergraduate student representatives. The Arts Council brings together campus leaders to facilitate arts research and practice, to integrate the arts into the UGA student experience, to engage with community partners, and to communicate faculty, staff, and student achievements to regional, national, and international communities. The Arts Council advises the Office of the Provost and advocates for strategic support of the arts at the University of Georgia.

With algorithm-driven artwork and mathematical visualizations comprising its flora, this garden is one you would normally encounter in the digital world. Brought into the physical world using a pen-plotter, though, the garden is overgrown with works that explore visualizations of scale and imperfections of the analog.

Down The Rabbit Hole, an Opera in One Act

Free and open to the public

"Down the Rabbit Hole" is a one act opera based on Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland." This production aims to engage new audiences, particularly the young and the young at heart, with both new compositions and opera as an art form while also creating performance opportunities for undergraduate singers and instrumentalists. The familiar story, presented through whimsical music, is brought to life through this operatic retelling. Music by Bryan Wysocki and Julien Berger.

One of only 30 projects funded by the Center for Disease Control Foundation, UGA used the grant to start a TikTok contest. The Willson Center invites proposals for a new round of Shelter Projects, a micro-fellowship program to support graduate students in the creation of shareable reflections on their experience of the pandemic through the arts and humanities. Applications are open until October 31, with ten $500 micro-fellowships offered initially and more available as funding allows. Projects must be completed by December 31 2021, adhere to the safety advice and requirements of the University System of Georgia, and may be shared in various public communications.

UGA's Black Theatrical Ensemble presents the event of the semester -- Elevate: Minority Short Film Festival! The festival is dedicated to showcasing the talent of minority filmmakers at UGA and in the Athens community. Please join us for a drive-in screening of nominated films on April 10 at 8 PM at parking lot E01 by the Intramural Fields. We look forward to celebrating these amazing films with you -- you don't wanna miss this!! Concessions will be provided by Rashe's Cuisine and the Lil' Ice

The Willson Center invites proposals for Shelter Projects, a micro-fellowship program to support graduate students and community-based artists and practitioners in the creation of shareable reflections on their experience of the current pandemic through the arts and humanities.

UGA graduate students in STEM disciplines and Arts disciplines are invited to take part in a research study to find out how using methods from the arts and collaborating with artists may improve creative inquiry and collaboration in the sciences. Elizabeth Corr works with artists, architects, and designers to heighten public awareness of and interest in the environmental issues that face today’s communities. Will Alexander works in multiple genres. In addition to being a poet, he is also a novelist, essayist, aphorist, playwright, philosopher, visual artist, and pianist. His books include Asia and Haiti, The Sri Lankan Loxodrome, and Compression and Purity. Alexander has taught at many colleges and universities, including the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, the University of California, and Hofstra University, among others. Interdisciplinary artist Clark Lunberry will talk about creating site-specific poetry installations and introduce a new work for the UGA campus. Lunberry is a Professor of English at the University of North Florida and the author of Sites of Performance: Of Time and Memory (Anthem Press 2014) and Writing on Water | Writing on Air (University of North Florida 2016). His large-scale poems placed on water and windows include recent installations in Oxford, England; Paris, France; Toronto, Canada; Tokyo and Hiroshima, Japan; and Stanford University.
