UGA ECONOMIST RELEASES ANNUAL MINORITY BUYING POWER STUDY: Minority buying power has nearly doubled over the past decade, according to a recent University of Georgia report. Tonight, Friday, August 4, University of Georgia food safety expert Mike Doyle is scheduled to appear on the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. Doyle is director of the Center for Food Safety and Quality Enhancement at the University of Georgia. The center was recently identified as "one of the country's top food-testing laboratories," according to one publication.

NBC Today Show Scheduled to Feature Nixon Tapes Donated to UGA:
On Wednesday, July 12, NBC's Today Show is tentatively scheduled to interview Frank Gannon, special assistant to former U.S. President Richard Nixon. Gannon conducted exclusive videotape interviews with the former president during his tenure in office. More than 33 hours of videotape interviews were recently donated to the University of Georgia Libraries' Media Archive. The tapes are valued at almost $1 million.

Nixon tapes donated to UGA Library; to be featured on national news program -- Tune into "The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather" tonight (Friday, July 7) at 6:30 p.m. where the University of Georgia's Library will be featured. Former President Richard Nixon's assistant Frank Gannon recently donated more than 33 hours of unedited interviews with Nixon to UGA's special collections. FRATERNITY SUSPENDED: The University of Georgia has placed Alpha Tau Omega fraternity on interim suspension pending further investigation into circumstances surrounding the death of fraternity member Ben Grantham. Grantham died March 30 as the result of injuries in a car wreck in Oconee County. GRADUATE SCHOOL PROGRAMS RANKED: UGA's College of Education, School of Law and the MBA program in the Terry College of Business all rank among the best graduate programs in the nation, according to the latest edition of a guidebook published by U.S. News and World Report. The College of Education is ranked 26th of 187 graduate programs nationwide, with five of its education specialties listed among the top 10 in the nation. Peabody Award winners announced March 30
The winners of the 59th annual George Foster Peabody Awards will be announced live on Thursday, March 30, from New York City beginning at 10 a.m. The Peabody Awards, administered by the University of Georgia, are considered the most prestigious prize in the broadcast and cable industry.
The live press conference, which will take place at the Freedom Forum in New York, will be hosted by Peabody Awards director Barry Sherman and NBC Today Show host Matt Lauer, and can be accessed live over the Internet beginning at 10 a.m. Visit the Peabody Awards

JUDGE ISSUES RULINGS IN LAWSUIT: Federal District Court Judge B. Avant Edenfield issued several rulings Feb. 10 in connection with a lawsuit challenging the university's admissions policies. Edenfield ruled that the case is no longer certified as a class action, denied the plaintiffs' motion for an injunction that would have halted the current admissions process, and affirmed a previous ruling that the plaintiffs cannot pursue damages from UGA President Michael F. Adams and Chancellor Stephen Portch personally. Edenfield also denied a motion for a change of venue.

TOPPING THE CHARTS: Former UGA track star Debbie Ferguson has been named one of the top eight student-athletes in the country by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. She is the third student-athlete from UGA to make that list in the last three years. Football player Matt Stinchcomb and swimmer Lisa Coole were previously honored. UGA ALUMNI CLUB IN ATLANTA TO OPEN: The new UGA Alumni Club, located in the Atlanta Financial Center in Buckhead, will officially open Feb. 26 with a gala black-tie event. The 10,000-square-foot facility is leased by UGA's National Alumni Association, which will offer the facilities to alumni and to UGA schools and colleges and other units for meetings and functions. http://www.uga.edu/columns/current/front2.html
