Subject: Waldseemueller terrestrial globe gores (1507) for auction
Yesterday (Thursday in London, England) I was somewhat surprised that
nobody drew our collective attention to the announcement, in some of our
'quality' newspapers in Britain, to the 8 June 2005 auction sale of a
fourth exemplar of the Waldseemueller terrestrial globe gores of 1507.
So I offer just one online (illustrated) report on this. Personally, I
read it in (also illustrated) 'The Independent'). Rodney (Shirley) will
have yet another reason to produce an www-available 'Addenda &
Corrigenda' to the 4th edition (2001) of his carto-bibliography on
printed world maps from 1477 to 1700 . . .

PS: there is a coloured illustration (of the black-&-white gores!) in
'The Daily Express' report.
