Define what is meant (in the patron's) mind by "wall map": in my view
this is most likely to be a multi-sheet map (with or without attached
rollers, and with or without varnish). Which cuts out virtually all
National Geographic Society maps. Original wall-maps of this vintage
are not easy to come by in used anything stores; we may, with all due
care and on a case-by-case basis, loan out such items to film, tv, and
theatre companies - for a fee. Alternatively, a 'props' free-lancer
we know will take away a large-format (A0) xerox of an original from
our map collection and get it joined and colored up sufficiently well
to masquerade as part of a set. Was the patron's intention/purpose
ever stated on this List? Apart from size, what was expressed as
regards language, relief representation (if any), etc.?
Sincerely
Francis Herbert (Curator of Maps, RGS, London)
