Apologies for cross-posting, but someone from either list may be able to
help.

A few weeks ago I asked if anyone knew of sources for helping to identify
18th and 19th century city plans, especially those with star-shaped forts,
and I had some helpful suggestions.

I'm now attaching, as a jpeg file, an enlarged image of the map in question
(from a portrait in which the subject is holding the map) - I'm afraid it
is not at all clear, but there appears to be coastline or a very large
river at the bottom of the map, and another river to the left of the
star-shaped fort, together with more buildings further left of the river.
My inquirer knows that her ancestors were in India and North America in the
mid- to late- 18th century, which is when this portrait would have been
painted.

Thanks for any help,
Judith.
