And another recently retired colleague in London found that a local (to
her
home) primary school (ages about 8 - 11, whatever grades that would be
in
America) was delighted to take multiple copies of some of our Ordnance
Survey 1 inch to 1 mile and 1:50K sheets of Britain. For
art/scribbling,
etc.; but, as Tinho notes, far better than binning; and someone may be
quite
by chance interested enough to pick up the 'map bug' instead of - or in
addition to - using them as 'gash' paper.

In the last few months I have donated a lot of duplicate maps to local
departments of fine art. They are very enthusiastic about taking the
maps
for collage work etc. I look forward to seeing many
cartographically-inspired pieces of art coming from the students in the
next few years.
This is a 'last resort' of course, a little better than throwing maps
in
the paper recycling bin.
Best wishes
Tinho
