Requirements: A MASTER'S DEGREE IN APPLIED, NATURAL, SOCIAL SCIENCES, OR
OTHER FIELD WITH STRONG GEOSPATIAL EMPHASIS REQUIRED (BACHELOR'S DEGREE
AND SIGNIFICANT GIS EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED). EXPERIENCE IN
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS INVOLVING DATABASE DESIGN AND ADMINISTRATION,
DEMONSTRATED EFFECTIVE ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS; INCLUDING
PRESENTATIONS; DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO SUPERVISE STAFF AND MANAGE
PROJECTS, AND DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN
COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS IS REQUIRED. EXPERIENCE INTERFACING WITH
SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION AND/OR DATABASE MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS, INCLUDING
IDENTIFICATION OF GIS DATASETS, EXPERIENCE IN PROVIDING INTRODUCTORY GIS
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH ADVISORY COMMITTEES AND DEVELOPING/
SUPPORTING USER GROUPS IS PREFERRED.
Job Description: THE UNIVERSITY GIS COORDINATOR POSITION COORDINATES AND
SUPPORTS UNIVERSITY-WIDE GIS ACTIVITIES. COMMUNICATES BOTH THE POTENTIAL
AND THE VALUE OF USING GIS SOFTWARE TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY. IDENTIFIES
OPPORTUNITIES TO INCORPORATE GIS IN GRANT APPLICATIONS. FACILITATES AND
SUPPORTS FACULY, RESEARCHERS, LIBRARIANS, TECHNICAL STAFF, AND STUDENTS
IN THE USE OF GIS SOFTWARE. DEVELOPS AND SUPPORTS SYMPOIA, TRAINING,
USER GROUPS, CONFERENCES, AND THE GIS WEB SITE. WORKS WITH THEGIS
FACULTY ADVISORY GROUP TO SUPPORT THE GIS CENTER. DIRECTS ACTIVITIESOF
GIS SUPPORT STAFF AND COLLABORATES WITH NTS TECHNICAL STAFF. THE DUTIES
INCLUDE: COORDINATES AND PROVIDES LEADERSHIP FOR UNIVERSITY-WIDE GIS
ACTIVITIES; DEVELOPS, FACILITATES, AND SUPPORTS THE GIS CENTER UNDER THE
GUIDANCE OF THE GIS ADVISORY COMMITTEE; CONSULTS AND COLLABORATES WITH
FACULTY, RESEARCHERS, LIBRARIANS, AND TECHNICAL STAFF IN THE USE OF GIS;
AND COORDINATES WITH UNIVERSITY STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP GROUPS SUCH AS GIS
ADVISORY, DIGITAL LIBRARY, IDENTITY MANAGEMENT, AND EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY.
