Greetings-

The application deadline for this year's Cyberinfrastructure Summer
Institute for Geoscientists 2008 (CSIG '08) is June 2nd, less than two
weeks away.

The year's CSIG will be held from August 11-15, 2008, on the University
of California, San Diego campus. This week-long program is designed
to provide participants an introduction to commonly-used as well as
emergent information technology (IT) tools via lectures, hands-on
experience, and Q & A sessions. Topics to be covered include: an
introduction to geoinformatics; data integration challenges; data
sharing portals and networks; remote-sensing data (including LiDAR);
Service Oriented Architecture and Web Services; and visualization of 3D
and 4D data.

Graduate students and post docs, as well as university faculty and
instructors with the goal of promoting the development of curricula and
courses in geoinformatics, are highly encouraged to apply. Please
forward this information to anyone you know who may be interested in
this valuable educational opportunity.

Support from the National Science Foundation enables GEON to offer this
course without a registration fee, as well as provides for on-campus
housing and meals for all accepted participants, throughout the week.
Participants are responsible for the cost of their transportation to the
University of California, San Diego campus.

Further information, including the current CSIG Program and online
Registration can be found at http://www.geongrid.org/CSIG08/ . To
ensure consideration for this year's Institute, please submit an
application on or before the June 2nd deadline. Please feel free to
direct any additional questions that you might have regarding the CSIG
'08 to me, as the organizer of this program.

Best regards, and I hope to see some of you in August.
