Bioengineering Librarian & Marketing Coordinator
Kurt F. Wendt Library, College of Engineering, University of Wisconsin -
Madison
The Kurt F. Wendt Library seeks a creative, energetic, and
service-oriented professional to provide reference and instructional
services and provide leadership in the development and implementation of
our marketing/outreach program. Reporting to the Director, the
Bioengineering Librarian & Marketing Coordinator will join an innovative
and collaborative staff in developing, implementing and providing
exemplary, user-centered information services. Wendt Library provides
access to state-of-the-art information resources and high-quality
assistance to students, researchers and instructors.
Wendt Library serves a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students in
the College of Engineering and Departments of Computer Sciences,
Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, and Statistics at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. Its collection includes nearly 300,000 book and
serial volumes, 1.5 million reports and government documents, and serves
as a US Patent and Trademark Depository Library. Wisconsin TechSearch
(WTS) is the fee-based information outreach program of Wendt Library,
offering reference services and document delivery to business and
industry from Wendt and more than 40 libraries and information centers
on the UW-Madison campus. For more information about Wendt Library,

Job Responsibilities
* Provide reference assistance at an integrated library services desk
and increasingly at online and mobile reference service points
* As liaison to the Departments for Biomedical Engineering, Chemical &
Biological Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, and related
research centers, develop and implement programs that effectively and
creatively respond to their information needs
* Participate in an active instructional program, working closely with
the Instruction Coordinator and with faculty to integrate information
skills into the curriculum and to support individual and group research
* Select monographs in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical & Biological
Engineering, and Materials Science & Engineering
* Coordinate with other campus libraries in the provision of information
services to users doing bio-related research
* In collaboration with the Director, Head of Faculty and Student
Services, departmental liaisons and other staff, develop and coordinate
Wendt Library’s marketing program, including, but not limited to:
- Creating outreach goals and objectives
- Leading discussions of best practices
- Developing tools to assess and evaluate outreach efforts
- Developing promotional materials
* Provide leadership and expertise in assessment of services and
collections
* Collaborate with the staff of Wisconsin TechSearch and with other
campus libraries on marketing and assessment activities
* Participate in system-wide initiatives and serve on committees and
task forces both in the College of Engineering and in the campus
libraries as appropriate
* Participate in professional development activities
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: An ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent advanced
degree in library or information science; demonstrated knowledge of and
interest in current issues in the delivery of information services;
strong commitment to user-centered service; demonstrated knowledge and
awareness of current trends in the profession; demonstrated experience
or interest in actively participating in professional development
activities; strong organizational skills; excellent oral, written and
interpersonal communication skills; initiative, flexibility and the
ability to creatively adapt in a rapidly changing environment;
demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment. Candidates
must articulate a genuine interest and enthusiasm for serving the
engineering and science research community.
Desired Qualifications: At least 2 yrs of professional experience
working in library services; degree in engineering or science,
particularly in a bio-related field; experience working with an
engineering or science research community; experience providing
reference and/or instructional services; experience providing outreach
or other related marketing skills; experience assessing services and
collections; experience in graphic design; demonstrated knowledge of and
interest in using new technologies to enhance the delivery of
information services; experience using educational technology;
demonstrated project management skills.

Appointment will be as an Associate Academic or Academic Librarian and
the salary will be commensurate with experience; minimum salary is $37,719.
