  ***POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT***     POSITION: RESEARCH SCIENTIST   Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department and the Artificial Intelligence Center of the University of Georgia, in collaboration with researchers from Georgia Tech and Georgia State University are establishing a center for decision support systems related to environmentally sound economic development. Center projects will include developing decision systems and tools to evaluate alternatives for both economic profitability and environmental sustainability. This is the first of two positions beinf advertised; a second position at research scientist or post- doctoral associate level is anticipated by October '97.   JOB DESCRIPTION:   This is a non-tenure track faculty position on a 12-month basis The person will be responsible for developing decision support systems related to evaluating alternative agricultural systems and land use for economic development. Responsibilities include collecting and organizing expert knowledge; data analysis; programming; evaluating decision support systems; and presentation of workshops and training sessions. Close interactions with collaborating scientists in the USA and Columbia is required. Limited travel to Latin America will be required. Additionally, the person will be required to prepare grant proposals to private foundations, and to US and international granting agencies.   QUALIFICATIONS:   Candidate must have a Ph. D. in Computer and Information Science, Environmental/Agricultural Engineering, Electrical Engineering or in a related field. He/she must have background in knowledge-based systems and in one of the following: fuzzy logic, artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms, or statistical methods. Knowledge of Geographical Information System (GIS) and understanding of biophysical processes in agricultural crop production systems will be desirable.
