A permanent, full time remote sensing and modeling research position is
available at the USDA, Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Water
Conservation Laboratory in Phoenix, AZ. This is an interdisciplinary
position within the Environmental and Plant Dynamics Research Group. The
position can be filled by a Physical Scientist, Research Ecologist,
Agricultural Engineer, or Research Agronomist. The incumbent will serve
as a member of a team of 4 scientists performing theoretical and practical
research on the use of remote sensing technology for management of
agricultural resources. Team emphasis is on early detection and
quantification of stresses that adversely affect productivity or
sustainability of agricultural systems using reflected solar and emitted
thermal energy. The incumbent is expected to contribute 1) abilities in
using and modifying crop simulation models, canopy level radiative transfer
models, and/or geographic information systems, 2) expertise in remote
sensing, 3) proficiency in scaling leaf and canopy measurements to field
and regional scales, and 4) knowledge of farm management, irrigation, and
production strategies including those used in precision agriculture. The
appointment will be at the GS-11 to GS-13 grade levels (salary range from
$47,110 to $87,289 per year), depending on experience. U.S. citizenship is
