Way to go, Mr. Editor. I AM glad to see there is interest, and I would

Just as a point of information, an article looking at map societies vs.
map organizations and a brief history of many of the same will be soon
published in the next issue of the /Journal of Map & Geography
Libraries/. (Vol. 3, No. 1 to be exact) To be honest, it is written at
an "overview" or "big picture" level, so a further comparison of
activities amongst or between similar organizations would likely still
be a worthwhile endeavor.
This discussion also reminds me that a few years ago a colleague here in
the U.S. did some research and wrote an article comparing the several
North American map librarianship organizations, especially looking at
the publications created and offered, which enlightened us as to the
lack of refereed journal opportunities for potential authors (and that
was at the nexus for Mary L. and I to look into starting JMGL). That
said, time passes so quickly, and with it our many similar organizations
ebb and flow, so I think an endeavor to capture and comparatively
analyze things would be of value to not only map librarians but other
similar professionals who might realize that a particular group or
organization could benefit them and their work. Carry on!
