EXPERIMENT STATION
The South African Sugar Association Experiment Station invites
applications for two senior positions in the Agronomy and Crop Modelling
Department.
Systems Modeller
A self-motivated person who is able to assist other scientists with
systems research and conduct groundbreaking research without guidance.
The successful candidate will be required to research, develop and
implement appropriate technology to enable optimisation of sugarcane
production, to assist with crop model development and to manage computer
code and data in a professional way.
Applicants should have at least a M.Sc. or equivalent degree and
experience in agricultural systems modelling and systems optimisation.
Agronomic or economics background will be advantageous.
Crop Scientist
A self-motivated person who is able to lead other scientists in crop
physiological and agronomic research. The successful candidate will be
required to conduct a broad research programme on crop responses to
climatic, soil and management factors such as variety characteristics
and crop cycles. A systems approach to increase understanding of the
mechanisms involved is required. The candidate will also be required to
assist with modelling these interactions and to provide agronomic
advice.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. with proven research experience in crop
science and exposure to a crop modelling environment. Agronomic
experience in a crop production environment will be an advantage.
The remuneration package is competitive and includes annual bonus,
