Map King Publishing Co Ltd (aka Outdoor Life) produces a set of 17
double-sided, colour, folded tourist topographic maps of Taiwan (in Chinese)
2003 vintage
1:100,000 scale,
100m contours,
elevation tinting (200/500/1000/2000/3000m)
shows roads by type, railways (high speed, standard, and narrow gauge
with all stations), bridges, cableways, petrol stations, bus termini,
churches, temples, mosques, schools, POs, police, factories, mines,
masts, hot springs, golf courses, province/city boundaries etc.
Reverse side has city maps at various scales (c.1:10,000 to 1:15,000).
and tourist info in Chinese.
price NT$88 each (less than US$3!!)

They also produce a series of city map booklets, 10x20cm, 96pp, also
NT$88 each, 2007 vintage. These cover major cities at 1:10,000 showing
important b! uildings, subway exits, parking areas, street names, 7-11s,
banks, hotels, etc, with topographic detail (10m contours) and
surrounding tourist areas at various scales.
Photos and details of sights, restaurants, hotels etc also given, all
text being in Chinese.

I found the sheet maps to be excellent value, and high quality in their
mapping. The city booklets are also excellent and up to date, but each
page is not part of a standard grid covering the city, but rather an
intrinsic suburb or area, and sometimes there are gaps in the coverage,
with a few blocks between two maps not being covered. Not a problem for
the average tourist, but annoying for other map users.
I'd recommend the sheet maps to libraries waning cheap but quality
mapping of Taiwan at a level of detail useful to researchers/travelers
and other serious users.
