Hi Amor,

Thanks! The site you suggest below has a very nice interface with
excellent features and a large amount of data that seems to differ from
the GSOD holdings.

I've tried various stations with some success:
Cambridge, UK -- >100+ years rainfall but no temperature
Herat, Afghanistan -> no data near enough
Bordenave, Argentina -> nearest sites were in Uruguay
Milan, Italy -- 100+ years rainfall but no temperature
Novi Sad, Serbia-Montenegro -- no data near enough
Zagreb, Croatia -- rain, Tmax, Tmin for over 100 years

Cambridge is a real disappointment. One researcher has the data, but the
met service licensed the data for a specific use. If anyone wants to
re-distribute the data, the costs go way up. Peter Jones (CIAT) suggested
finding the Cambridge newspaper in a library and copying the data out.

Best regards,
Jeff

Re: Weather data for Int Winter Wheat Performance Nurseries

Hi,

Maybe you should try the ClimateExplorer of KNMI.

http://climexp.knmi.nl/

Hope this will help.

Subject: Weather data for Int Winter Wheat Performance Nurseries

Hi,

I am trying to match a large series of international wheat trials
conducted from 1968 to 1981 with sets of daily weather. The IWWPN was
grown at over 80 locations, with 30 genotypes being tested each year. This
looks like an excellent data set for testing phenology models.

Working from web sources, the Global Summary of the Day database (GSOD)
and individual contacts, I have data for about half of the sites. I am now
fishing for daily data for the rest. If you have access to data for the
following locations/time periods, please contact me. The priority data are
daily values of Tmax, Tmin and rainfall, but solar radiation is always
appreciated.

Herat, Afghanistan; 1975-1981; 34o11'N 60o13'E
Bordenave, Argentina: 1968-1982: 35o51'S 63o1'W
Tolbukhin, Bulgaria: 1968-1982: 43o40'N 28o10'E
Chillan, Chile: 1972-1982: -36o32'S, 71o55'W
Shimla, India: 1970-1976: 32oN, 77o18'E
Hamedan, Iran: 1971-1980: 34o47'N 48o30'W
Karaj, Iran: 1968-1982: 35o47' N 50o W
Milan, Italy: 1968-1982: 45o13' N 9o25' W
Rieti, Italy: 1968-1982: 42o24' N 12o 52' W
Tel Amara, Lebanon: 1972-1979 33o51' N 35o59' W
Warsaw, Poland: 1972-1982 52o12' 21o33'E (probably PBAI near Blonie?)
Aleppo, Syria: 1976-1981 36o11'N 37o13'E
Haymana, Turkey: 1968-1982: 39o57'N 32o53'E
Cambridge, UK: 1968-1982 52o10' 0o6'E
Novi Sad, Serbia-Montenegro: 1968-1982; 45o5'N 19o48'E
Zagreb, Croatia: 1969-1982: 45o49' 15o59'

The coordinates are from the reports and may contain errors. In most
cases, the site should correspond to a wheat research program.

Tom Payne (CIMMYT) and I would like to make the complete set of data
freely available for modelers, etc. The IWWPN also includes data on yield,
grain nitrogen, cold tolerance, dieases, plant height... There is no soil
data, and descriptions of management are incomplete.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
