The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics
(ICRISAT) seeks a dynamic and experienced person to be the Principal
Scientist/Global Theme Leader for Agro-Ecosystems. The person will be
based at ICRISAT’s Headquarters near Hyderabad, India, reports to the
Deputy Director General for Research and is a member of the Institute’s
Research and Management Committees.

The selected person will provide global leadership across sub-Saharan
Africa and south Asia to a diverse and active group of scientists and
partners in natural resource management research focused on alleviating
poverty and improving the well being of poor rain-fed farming
communities in the dry tropics. The person will also be expected to lead
a significant research effort in one of the major challenges being
addressed such as mitigating the impacts of current climate-induced risk
and adapting to future climate change, reducing land degradation or
enhancing farm diversification of production.

Applicants should have a commitment to serve the poor, a PhD degree in
basic or applied agricultural or biological sciences with an in depth
specialization in one or more of the following fields: soil and water
management, soil fertility management, agronomy or agro-climatology. At
least 10 years of relevant experience, including international exposure,
is required. An outstanding track record of scientific achievement,
successful grant development and management, and leadership is
essential. Skills and experience in working with multi-disciplinary and
multi-cultural teams and team building are also required. Fluency in
spoken and written English is essential and knowledge of French is an
advantage.
