Subject: Post-doctoral position

Dear colleagues,

A one-year post-doctoral position will be available at INRA, Avignon and
Clermont-Ferrand, France from February, 1st, 1999. The project is about
modelling carbon and water exchanges in peach trees at the shoot scale and
coupling with models of fruit growth and quality. The objective is to better
understand the variations of fruit properties within a tree crown, in
relation to the microclimate (especially light) in the fruit zone. The work
will focus on the 3D simulation of the spatial distribution of light,
photosynthesis and transpiration in peach trees. For this purpose, a model
developed at INRA-Clermont-Ferrand and previously applied to an isolated
walnut tree will be parameterised for peach trees. The 3D model will be
combined with models of fruit growth and quality developed at INRA-Avignon
and based on carbon and water transfer to the fruit. Coupling will consist
of using carbon sources simulated at the shoot scale by the 3D model, as
driving variables for the fruit models.

Skills in modelling and ecophysiology are required:
- models are written in Fortran77,
- measurements on peach trees will include canopy structure (3D digitising),
stomatal and photosynthesis leaf responses, branch bags and sapflow meters,
microclimate, sugar content of fruit.

Field work will be held in Avignon (South-East of France) while modelling
work will be shared between Avignon and Clermont-Ferrand (Center of France)

Candidates interested should send a letter of application, resume, and
at least two reference letters before the end of December to the address below.
