Subject: MAPS-L: Dating Blay Foldex Kummerly Frey maps
Date: Wed, 27 Jul 2005
From: Angie Cope, AGSL
To: maps-l
At the AGSL, we determined that DLC tended to use the date that appeared
in the last two digits of the letter-number code found on the map. So,
with this number: "E-3181-0704" -- one can assume that the date of the
map is 2004.
Some of the Blay Foldex maps have an E and an R letter/number code - we
guess that one refers to an edition and the other to a revision. In this
case: "R-3159-0403/E-2908-1001" -- the date to go with is 2003.
Thanks to my field work student, Jasper Zhang, for looking into this and
coming up with an intelligent and reasonable conclusion!
