I have been having mixed experience with this practice. I have had to have cases stacked 4 high. Older cases from Hamilton, or from Stacor will work fine stacked more than three units high. Newer ones from Safco will work this way, but care must be taken at every step in the process. I am not convinced that stacking more than three high is actually the culprit. I have seen a unit warped when there were only three in the stack. I have seen others however, where the lowest case in the stack has had some problems. I have also seen this in units higher in the stack, so I am not sure if the problem is the weight of too many units, or if it is poor handling in stacking them.
Another problem with these is in being careless when pulling the drawer open. Always, always use both handles to pull a drawer. When doing a one-handed draw, it can be all too easy to pull to the side of the hand doing the draw. This can often cause the drawer to run poorly on the bearings. This will then cause the drawer track to slide off the bearing. It can also damage the lining of the bearing, so that the wheel has bare metal exposed. The metal tracks on the drawer, and the metal of the bearing wheel do not play nicely together.
These are pretty poorly made for the cost of them, but I cannot find a competitor available for us to use. Any recommendations other than Safco would be greatly appreciated for future reference.

Hi Maps-L'ers,
We have been looking at the idea of stacking map cabinets four high
(five drawers each) to free up floor space. We've seen it done in at
least two places but are not sure about this practice. At least one
vendor doesn't recommend it, and lately the more affordable cases (term
used lightly), don't seem quite as solid as our older cases. A warped
case is pretty much useless and a very expensive loss.
Does anyone have experience stacking higher than 3 sets? If so, what
brands are these?
Any comments/recommendations either way are much appreciated.
