Since the Laguna Art Museum's only about 11 miles from where I'm working
these days, I'll volunteer to take a look (but certainly not over this
weekend -- Laguna will go nuts because the weather's supposed to be
hot).
The online piece about the exhibit says:
Sandow Birk's 'In Smog and Thunder': Historical Works from the Great War
of the Californias Organized by LAM Curator of Exhibitions Tyler
Stallings through July 9, then July
23-October 15 , 2000. Drawing inspiration from the ever-present rivalry
between northern and southern California, this exhibition details Sandow
Birk's portrayal of a fictional war between
Los Angeles and San Francisco. With
elaborate "history" paintings, propaganda posters, topographical maps,
ship models, portraits of key military figures, and extensive
pseudo-historical commentary, Birk appropriates
painting styles from the past to make
commentaries on contemporary life and events in California.
Later dudes and dudettes.
