The Australian Geological Survey Organisation (AGSO) is the premier
geoscience mapping and information service organisation of Australia,
supporting and encouraging economically and environmentally sustainable
management of Australia's minerals, energy, soil and water resources.
We are looking for a person to organise and control the work of AGSO's
Map & Airphoto Library. This person will be expected to promote user
access to our map and airphoto collections and to provide cartographic
reference services to AGSO clientele. They will be responsible for
selecting, cataloguing and indexing cartographic material, as well as
for maintaining computerised databases of indexes to the holdings in the
cartographic collection.
Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in librarianship and either
cartography, geography or an allied subject would be a distinct
advantage.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Map & Airphoto Curator will be responsible for organising and
controlling the work of AGSO Library's Map and Airphoto Section. Main
duties will include:
1. Providing cartographic reference services to AGSO clientele.
2. Maintaining computerised databases of indexes to the holdings in
the cartographic collections.
3. Selecting, cataloguing and indexing cartographic material.
4. Maintaining appropriate storage of the collection.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
IMPORTANT
1. Experience with the organisation and use of cartographic
collections
2. Familiarity and experience with automated database systems,
preferably in a library environment
3. Experience with, or capacity to develop skills in, the
selection, cataloguing and reference use of library material,
with particular emphasis on cartographic materials
4. Good oral and written communication skills and an ability to
promote services both within and outside AGSO
5. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team
environment while mainitaining a high degree of self motivation
and initiative

C. ELIGIBILITY/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Formal qualifications in librarianship or substantial library
experience and/or tertiary qualifications in geography,
