The University of Maryland is engaged in a long-term project to have
~30,000 US Congressional Serial
Set maps flattened, de-acidified and encapsulated in mylar. We don't
currently have map cases to
properly accommodate all those items (and I'm not sure if/when we will),
so we've considered using
  archival boxes to store the smaller items (~19,000 are 11" x 14" or
smaller). Ostensibly, boxes
are flexible, inexpensive and easy to handle. Still, I imagine there are
also downsides. Does
anybody have experience with storing maps like this? Any advice? Am I
brilliant or nuts (or neither)
for thinking this might be a good solution?!? ;)
